NEEDING HELP!!!

Hi everyone, here's my issue please someone help me with some advice.......Ive been having bouts of panic attacks sence i was a child, im 31 now.. Ok ive delt with it untill just recently it was to much to bare. So i went to the dr, she did some heart test on me which were normal, she did the tests because how my heart acts up during the panic and my family has history of heart problems, anyway she prescribed me Xanax for 10 days till i got to pych dr.... He was very supportive, he knew right away i was in major need of help. Well he gave me zoloft, klonopin and trazodone, which i started yesterday, yesterday evening my panic attacks came back with horrible VENGINS!!!!!!!! the klonopin wasnt working at all!!!! I needed releif so i took a half of one of my .5mg xanax, then that didnt even work because i was scared that i had taken way to much benzo, so i was freaking out over that. In the past the way ive dealt with panic attacks id takin a cold shower and not even drying off just laying in bed wet, the coldness and shivering seems to bring me out of panic for awhile anyway, i had to do that twice last night.. im waiting on the dr office to open so i can see what can be changed. but i know that you guys know what im experiencing. any advice??

Still been pretty much panic free, Ive had to up my dosage of zoloft, it gave me the same crappy feeling i had the first few days i was taking it. Is this normal? I have another question for you all.

So being that we all suffer from the same thing. can you guys feel your heart beating hard? especially when laying down. Sometimes i can actually hear my heart beating. When will i accept that there is nothing wrong with me and im not going to die? Yeah yur probably thinking yeah right panic must not be gone, lol.... Well i didnt say the anxiety and worry hasnt gone.. I am very happy that i do have the panic attacks under control, that was horrible, like sudden intence fear hitting your body for no reason at all, ugh.

I am so happy for you! I have been on Zoloft (dosage has varied depending on the severity of my panic) for over 13 years. I truly believe it helped to save my life when I first started taking in when I was 19 years old. It helps to control your panic so you can work on finding ways to relieve your stress.  I still also have Xanax that I will take if I have a flair up, my doctor claims that you can take the 2 together without worry of counter acting. The other thing is to stay active in the support groups.  I did not have the online help when I was 19 so I had to wing it but now when I have flair ups, I can come on here and find relief and support. It truly is a blessing :)

That's so wonderful to hear!  So many times the payoff of dealing with the initial effects and having to wait it out is so worth it!

You'll be amazed at how each week you'll feel better and better!

I'm so happy for you!

You guys, im doing so much better, i went for my MRI and MRA yesterday, and even went grocery shopping, which was a huge step. my panic attacks are pretty much controlled now. i pray to god it stays this way... Even though at first i was so scared to take the medication combo the dr gave me, i did what i had to do... my situation must have been pretty bad, i must have not had any serotonin in my brain, just after 5 days of taking the meds my depression got better and the panic was not as bad. whats crazy is just a few days after taking the meds, i didnt feel like living anymore it seemed things had gotten worse, my dr would say, "Samantha, just trust me, give it time"... thats what i did, and now i see hope.

Yeah my doctor has me taken the klonopin up to 4 times a day if i need it, so far my morning does and then another dose around 2 usually does pretty good on keeping my panic controlled. I for some reason keep a fast heart rate like over 100 beats a minute, which also causes me to panic. My primary care doctor has me going to the hospital Monday to have a MRI done on my aorta, sence me have heart problems in our family. She is hoping this will put my mind at ease, of course if everything comes out ok, which it should cuz i have had every other heart test done thats come out normal. I just need to except im just "coo coo for cocoa puffs", and take my meds =).... Im glad i know about this website, everyone has been so cool and supportive, thank you everyone... <3

.25 is the lowest dose that is usually taken.  If you take it in the AM an again in the PM.  you will get some relief.  It's not a fast acting benzo like xanax so you have to get it into your system by taking it regularly.  If you take the Zoloft and the klonopin as prescribed you should feel better in a couple of weeks.  The klonopin should help within a week.  Don't be afraid of the klonopin.  It is much better for long-term issues and has less tolerance issues. Most SSRI's give you that fuzzy feeling at first but that will wear off.  Good luck and hang in there.

Hey girl.. I am 27. I have 2 kids.. and adopted my brother and sister in 2007.. 13 and 16. yr olds... I too have been fighting depression and anxiety.. Major panic attacks my entire life.. For me the xanex works for the time being.. and then... withdrawl makes me have panic attacks.. I would get so stressed.. and depressed that I would feel like i was going to pass out... I once passed out.. and my fiance rushed me to the ER... I just felt horrible!!
They put me on many kinda of depression and axiety meds... trying to figure out the best for me.. Paxil.. was horrible.. Wellbutrin (was great- MINUS the Headaches- and the symptoms that could happen( brain bleeds) gave me anxiety just wondering if I was going to have brain bleed) After a few more.. lexapro.. and prozac.... FInally Jack pot Zolof.. but.. im on the highest dose + .... it works for me.. it does make me super sleepy.. but.. I blame my tired-ness on my kids.. age and 3 and 1... :) its very hard and I know what your going through!! Dont give up.. their is light at the end of the tunnel altho your brain is telling you its a train light at the end of the tunnel! I know because I have been there and look back and say I can not believe that was me.. Look at me now.  I will say that my Dr. Doesnt RX xanex anymore because it leads in SOME cases to schizophrenia, and not to mention your dependancy of the controlled substances.. For the anxiety they tried busperone.. (busbars) they are no longer on the market do to the side affects... but after trial and error.. Im happily on Atarax... and Zoloft... ( I used to be on trazadone ( for sleeping) ) but gave up the pills because they make me groggy.. so I work out every morning and that helps me to sleep at night... All I can say is when you think your having a bad day.. think of what tomorrow can be.. Think positive.. and remember your kids love you.. and you and I are alike.. so you are NOT alone!.. I hope this finds u well.. and if you need to talk.. there are soo many people out there.. so many sites to blogg so many help lines that you can call just to talk to someone.. Feel better... I have been where you are.. DOnt give up!!! Bless you and your family!!!! <3

Hello and welcome to the forum!

You are amongst people who know exactly what you're going through.  It IS tough and it does stink.  No one will argue that with you.

What you have to remember is that treatment for anxiety and panic works, but it takes some time, work and patience.  Unfortunately we don't get relief overnight.  When we're feeling so badly with anxiety through the roof, it seems like forever until we see positive changes.

Keep working with your doctor.  The Zoloft is a great choice for someone with panic disorder, it is frequently Rx'd as a front line Rx for panic disorder.  It DOES take some time before you will start noticing the effects.  Typically, you'll need to give the Zoloft 4-6 weeks before you start noticing improvement.  Sometimes, you'll even require a dosage increase along the way as well until you and your doc find a therapeutic dosage for you. Everyone is different.  There are also common initial side effects with these kinds of meds.  They can include an increase in anxiety, feeling "jittery", shaky, nausea, diarrhea, to name a few.  The good news is, they usually start to subside after a week or two (again, everyone is different).  Talk with your doctor about using the Xanax as needed during this period of time where the side effects may cause some distress.

Don't be afraid to take the Zoloft.  Just go into this knowing that there will be some rough moments.  For a vast majority of people, the pay off is worth it.  When the Zoloft starts doing its thing, it really helps to decrease the symptoms of anxiety.

In addition to the meds, ask for some therapy.  Meds are great for reducing anxious symptoms, but therapy is important as it will teach you coping skills that will help you in the long run.

Use whatever support system you have.  This site is a great place in addition to your family and friends, as we're all in the same boat.  We get it.  Don't be hard on your hubby.  People who haven't experienced anxiety on this level really just don't understand.  To them, they don't get why we can't just "snap out of it", or "shake it off".  They are not being insensitive, they just don't understand.  Perhaps invite him to a few therapy sessions or ask him to read a book about panic and anxiety.  Also, don't be afraid to talk about it.  We are very good at making ourselves suffer in silence because we are embarassed to talk about it.  You'd be surprised...once you start sharing with others how you feel and what you're going through...often you'll discover that people you know and are close to have similar problems. It's nothing to be ashamed of.  Keep working with your doctor and be patient with yourself.  Relief will come, it just takes some time.

Of course we're here for you as well and we care.  So, come back and update us on your progress.  Having a bad day?  Come here and vent...share.  Not only will you help yourself by getting support from people living it, but you'll help others in the process.

Oh, you poor thing, I have been where you are....big ((((((hugs)))))) for you!  It is very important that you keep your doctor fully informed of what is going on with you and your thoughts on it.  One thing I know is fact:  zoloft does not interact with any benzo (such as xanax), but zoloft can interact with a host of other medications, as well as grapefruit.  Tell your doctor what you have told us.  Ask for his reccomendations, and ALWAYS take your meds AS PRESCRIBED by him.  NEVER attempt to self-medicate, as this can cause you more greif.

Thank you, i do need to learn some relax skills... I just feel that the Xanax saved my life, it gave me so much relief. why change what works, hope the dr understands that. I dont like how it makes me real sleepy at first but after and hour or so im good to go and pretty much panic free all day. My most support person is my mom, she is disabled and living with me, my husband on the other hand is very confused and doesnt know how to handle or help me out. . When i get the panic attacks the first person i run to is my mom and i lay my head in her lap, just her touch, running her fingers through my hair does good. this ***** though, why do i have to go through this? i just want to be normal. im supposed to take the Zoloft this morning, im scared to take it, feeling like it played a part in the hell i went through all night.

hi, so sorry your going threw this, you need to breathe and try and relax. yes there are so many of us and we are all in same boat. your heart beat gets high because its like your scared and sending messages for it to run, which throws your bp up to.  been dealing with this since i was 19 now 52 still here nothing has killed me yet that has to do with anxiety.

you need a good support person to lean on. i have my hubby its made all the difference for me, hes my rock i can talk to him and i always feel better.

the pills take a while to get in your body. i also took klonopin and its a great med you need to let it work. .o5 is very little and dont be scared to take it my mom takes 1 1/2 three times a day some times 2 at a time.  i took the .05 twice a day and was only o it two months , it helped me to get on my feet than i took myself off slowly.

pills will not take it away, you will still have it some they just make it better for you , but having someone there anytime yo feel scared/like your dying will help alot. if you have had all test ran and dr says your fine. try and belive that and live your life, donrt get house bound like i did its so hard to get back out but i did it and am living pill free and enjoying life . yes i still get anxiety i have had a lieryday for the last two weeks , but i get up and do what i need to do i will not let it take me down again.
