Panic attacks

I recently starting taking .25mg of klonopin to replace the xanax i was taking. Since taking the Klonopin I seem to be more anxious and have distorted vision at times. I had a major panic attack while driving 2 days ago. I swore I was going to pass out. I have not had that happen to me in over 15 yrs. I am taking my xanax still in moderate amounts .25mg-.50 max a day. It seems to be the only thing that makes me comfortable. Please tell me can the Klonopin cause anxiety?

Thanks

Hey M4

I also take paxil along with a benzo. I see my NP tomorrow so I will discuss whether I am going to keep on the klonopin or just stay with the xanax.
I feel xanax had been helping more.,...the klonopin not so much. But its still a low dose...etc
I do see a therapist & a psychiatric Nurse practioner for meds.

Thanks for your input!

Hello there,

Replacing a benzo with another benzo ( both drugs are in the benzodiazepine class ) might not be a wise choice. One drug does not fit all. It is possible you have a bad experience with Klonopin and good experience with Xanax.

You must remember that benzodiazepines are used for short term treatment of anxiety. If you are looking for a long term treatment i would suggest taking an anti-depressant in the SNRI ( Cymbalta ) or SSRI ( Lexapro ) class. Remember that medications, in my humble opinion, should only be used in last resort.

You have other options like talk therapy, luminotherapy that might help, physical activity and healthy diet.

Please consider that i'm not a doctor and i sugest you talk to your doctor.

Best regards,
M4
