Merry Christmas to everyone,
I've been since a week now on 40 mg prozac fluoxetine, today I felt very down and sick-like, I'm very concerned and feeling dizzy and not myself, panicking and sad sad sad. I feel like vomiting and feels like a fire in my stomach since the morning. I had some wine yesterday but didn't drink much though. I've been on 20 mg since a year now, but due to a blip I moved to 40 mg of course with a GP recommendation. I need you to tell me if you experienced this after increasing the dose, please help me it will be appreciated. My Doctor says in a week or so I'll start feeling the good results. I need a message of hope, I've been crying for the last two hours.
Thank you
I don't have any experience with prozac, so I'm not sure how much help I can be. However, I can share a couple of things I've learned on my med. journey. Starting or increasing a dose on our anxiety meds can actually increase our anxiety as a side effect. This is no fun, I know. But this is usually temporary and goes away over time. GI distress can also be a common side effect.
As hard as it sounds, we just need to give it time. It took me about 12 days to turn a corner on side effects (including feeling anxious & sad) on the latest increase on my medication. I can tell you that better days DO come once our bodies have adjusted to the medication. I'm not 100% yet, but definitely better than I was even 2 days ago.
Drinking alcohol with some medications, especially when starting or increasing dosage, may have a negative impact on how we feel. So, it might be worth it to abstain for a while on the wine.
If you haven't yet, I'd encourage you to seek out a psychiatrist to help you. These are professionals trained specifically in mental health, so they can address our needs with greater expertise. Not saying anything against your GP; just, sometimes we need a specialist.
And, if your side effects continue to trouble you, or you do start vomiting, then I'd definitely call your doctor.
Sending you good wishes - hope you find relief soon!
