Hi togo,

I've have tried all the above hearbs for over a period of  20 something years. And all of them work and are good to you. However, the difference betweem them and meds that I have now known in the time they stay within the body. The herds, although great, have short durations and very few side effects. However, the meds last longer and have side effects. So if you start on the herbs, just remember you will have to take the regularly because they don't stay in the system long. Hope this helps

Oh, and I disagree on the use of standardized herbs.  Not that I don't use them, but they aren't natural, they are altered to reach the chemical they're standardizing for.  Since nobody understands plants, nobody knows exactly why they work, and so standardization is actually quite random.  A good example is St. John's Wort.  It was originally standardized for hypericin, but it turned out hyperforins were much more pertinent for its use as an antidepressant.  They got it wrong, in other words.  I don't think valerian is an herb that needs standardization, whereas standardized kava does seem to work better, but also raises liver toxicity issues, whereas nonstandardized kava doesn't.  Basically, standardization is used to make herbs more like pharmaceuticals.  It tells you that one marker is the same every time, but tells you nothing about the other active ingredients, which have to be altered to get the marker chemical standardized.  Using a good recognized herbal company such as Herb Pharm or Planetary Formulas is probably better than using standardized herbs, or at least safer, as it more matches what has been used historically, but as I say, I do take some herbs in standardized form, such as hawthorn, which helps to relax the heart.  It's up to the person to decide; science is way behind what plants know.

Using natural remedies is, like medication, different for each person.  Herbs and amino acids are usually used in combination, along with therapy, meditation, acupuncture, exercise and diet regulation.  The herbs mentioned above are used like benzos, which means that they are short acting substances that work on GABA receptors.  But you can also work on serotonin by taking 5htp, which is what the body uses to make serotonin, and you can work on GABA by taking taurine, the amino acid used to make GABA.  The above substances are good, but I would probably combine the passionflower with hops.  Green oats are used to tone the body's relaxation system and the hormonal system and over the long term might be better than most herbs.  Passionflower is considered very good for long term relief, while valerian is short term, and can cause drowsiness, but is less likely to do so in us anxious people.  B6 is also important, as are B's generally; a good stress B is important.  B6 helps in the production of both GABA and serotonin.  Adaptogens such as eleuthero and ashwagandha are used to tone the adrenals, and holy basil can help with blood sugar and the amount of cortisol.  As you can see, there's a lot of stuff out there.  Sometimes it's better to do this with a naturopath or holistic nutritionist or herbalist who can do the trial and error necessary to see what works best for you.  A good book to use as a primer is Natural Highs by Hyla Cass, a psychiatrist at UCLA.

Hello there,

Along with physical activity and healthy diet you can try the herb passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) is have shown possitive result.

Valerian extract is one herb shown to relieve anxiety in numerous scientific studies. When taken in doses of 50-500 mg, Valerian extract can help you feel more relaxed and less worried. It usually works quickly after about 30 minutes, and unlike anti-anxiety drugs, Valerian is not addictive. High-quality natural anxiety medications contain Valerian extract that's standardized to contain at least 0.8% of valerenic acid, the active constituent.

L-theanine, an amino acid extracted from Green Tea, is a third natural anxiety medication with a pronounced anti-anxiety effect. In fact, many people report that L-theanine works as well as anti-anxiety drugs when taken in doses of 100-300mg. Some products marketed as "L-theanine" actually contain very little pure L-theanine, and thus aren't effective. For this reason, you should make sure to use a natural anxiety medication with SunTheanine®, a 99% pure form of L-theanine.

The best natural anxiety medications are those containing proven ingredients in the proper doses and potencies. For effective anxiety relief, i recommend Seredyn, a supplement that combines the proven doses of Valerian extract, Passion Flower extract, and SunTheanine.

Physical activity is also recommended since it will make your body produce a lot of hormones that will regulate you body and mind. Combine that with a healthy diet and i would not be surprised to see major improvement. Get a subsription to a gym and and try to follow a daily or at 3 times a week schedule. Combined with a healthy diet you will see more benefits. Physical activity and healthy diet is actually my number one advice.

You can also try luminotherapy. Luminotherapy means light therapy and usually involves half-hour sessions in front of a bright lamp (10 000 lux), specially adapted to treat seasonal depression. The principle is simple: light exposure slows down melatonin production, fighting sleepiness and depression. The light reaches the brain through the retina of the eye, as nerve impulses, to alter hormone levels, which in turn reset your body clock and boost your immune system. Some doctors and health farms offer luminotherapy as a treatment, but there are also special lamps on the market for home use.

Talk to your doctor if you have any concern about it and be sure to have no medical condition before engaging intense physical activity. Some tests might be needed to be sure you can engage intense cardiovascular activities.

Hope this will help you
Best regards,
M4
