TODDLER BEHAVIOR

MY TODDLER SON IS OUT OF CONTROL WHEN HE GETS BACK FROM VISITING WITH HIS GRANDPARENTS.  HE THROWS TANTRUMS AND IS VERY DIFFICULT TO HANDLE.  WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN, AND HOW DO I FIX IT?  I HAVE JUST LET HIM SIT ON THE FLOOR SCREAMING, I HAVE TAKEN HIM TO HIS ROOM, I HAVE TRIED TALKING TO HIM, AND I'VE ALSO TRIED DISTRACTING HIM WITH SOMETHING ELSE.  I AM AT MY WHITS END! PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME!!!!

You may also want to consult the "Parenting Toddlers" forum about this, but here's my quick-take: There is something going on at Grandma's house. Maybe he gets spoiled rotten and can't stand being back with you, or maybe something unpleasant is happening, but you're not going to get an answer while he's going crazy. As soon as YOU calm down, chat with the GP's about it in a calm, matter of fact way. And then, when Throckmorton gets control of himself, watch his play activity and interactions -see of there are any differences. Meanwhile, do what you are doing -stand by. Don't let him manipulate you, but be present. Certainly, NO punishment.
