The Panic Trick

I just wanted to share something that I recently read that helps me out A LOT! I don't know if this is old news, so sorry if everyone has heard this already. I read that panic is your mind play a "trick" on you. That because it feels that danger is around it tricks your body into going haywire. But if during these times of "discomfort" you can tell yourself that "No, I'm not going to pass out (or insert what your feeling) because my mind is just play a trick on my body because it thinks it needs to protect me." It really helps. Once you start answering all the negative talk with this (or at least for me) I can somewhat look at what my mind is having my body do and appreciate how my body is trying to SAVE me, not KILL me! Then I am able to say things like "My body only feels shaky because its full of energy ready to run" Or "my eyes are only seeing things like this because they are trying to assess what it thinks is a dangerous situation." And then it all makes sense and I have found myself saying "Yeah, I remember I felt just like this once when I had a near car accident!" Its still panic and scary, but its a little easier to fight when you start to understand and relate GOOD EXAMPLES of panic.
Hope everyone is have a great Friday!

Thank you- you are absolutely correct!  Just today, i started to feel a little light headed, but talked to myself, and said, it is just my sinuses, and i need to take a claritin and it will go away.  Usually i would have thought i was going to pass out, and gotten into a full blown panic attack, but i just reprogrammed what i was thinking, and though more logically about it!  have a great friday too!

I always say that a panic attack won't kill me and I breathe and I am now pretty good at stopping a panic attack dead in its tracks. If I feel one coming on and I am around people, I go someplace to be alone and tak myself out of it and then I am fine. Your right, say positive things and it will help you out of a panic attack.
