Have you had any therapy for this? You really need to see a therapist who can teach you to re-train your brain so that you don't worry so much. I've worried all my life and now at 60, I can tell you that what will be....will be, and all the worry in the world will not change it. NONE of us know if we have tomorrow, so you don't want to waste a second worrying about what "may" happen. Enjoy the time you have, which may well be a 100 years, none of us know. It took me many years to realize that I was worrying my life away instead of enjoying it. I started living for the day, knowing my worry controlled nothing. YOU are in control, decide to live your life and not worry about what may never happen. I know this is easier said than done, but I'd hate to see others worry their lives away only to wake up one day an old person and wonder where the years went. I know you can do this, especially with therapy. I'm sure others will have some very helpful advice for you. I wish you all the best, and take care!
If you've had those thorough medical/lab checkups and your doctor confirms your physical health is fine then it certainly sounds like you suffer from severe anxiety and panic attacks. You have said you worry constantly about your health (hypochondria) and that every bodily sensation snowballs into more anxiety that results in more bodily sensations, a vicious cycle.
Then when you feel it won't be a heart attack, that it will be the stress and worry. In other words, you keep this cycle going, stressful thinking causes adrenalin to create more bodily sensations that in turn scare you more.
You need to put trust in your doctor that you are fine. If all else fails then you should continue to get therapy and talk this situation out, to break the cycle. I wish you best of luck since I've had my share of these cycles myself. But you can break it once and for all.
I would have to agree that going to see a therapist about this, if haven't already, could really help you understand where your health anxiety comes from.
My original experience with anxiety came with concerns about my heart health. I felt every little pain, blip, palpatation, etc...you name it, I felt it. I was thoroughly convinced something must be wrong with my heart despite the mulitiple viisits to the ER, the tests, and reassurances from the doctors.
In my experience with this, I became overly 'sensitized' to every little feeling within my body. I was constantly scanning for problems and frankly misinterpreted everyday feelings as something catastrophic. For me, going to see a therapist helped tremendously. By learning about the sources of your anxiety, it can give you the knowledge to confront it...keep us posted!
Thanks for your comments guys! Much appreciated. But it's easier said than done right? And no, I haven't seen a therapist, it's been hard to track down the right one in my town
