A good book is Self-Communication (green cover) by Joseph Luciani. I found it very insightful and it provides a whole host of coping mechanisms.
Thank You both very much for responding, I have been on paxil 12 years,
I am needing to get back into therapy, I try to rationally get to the root of my fear and kind find some reprieve for a few hours ,but it over takes my life, and paralyzes me.
Nothing I can do but face my fears, I usually feel somewhat better after that.
I am going to look into the CBT therapy, as I believe this is coming from childhood, it is deep rooted. I just know I am sick from it.Thank you so much for your responses.Hope I make it to the doctor tommoro as I really need to go.
Hello and welcome! I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble, but you're in the right place. We all know how it feels to worry and have anxiety we can't seem to control. Any kind of health concern will cause anxiety, that's normal, so try not to be too hard on yourself. Your worry has escalated to a more irrational fear of serious diseases, which is also another cruddy aspect of anxiety...our minds tend to run off on their own thinking of the worst possible case scenarios.
I agree with Canuck that CBT would be very helpful for you. Often times we need to retrain the way we think and react to situations in order to break that anxiety cycle of thinking. Look into it.
Also, how long have you been on the Paxil? These meds can take 6+ weeks to really start making a difference. Certainly, talk to your doctor about it, you may do better on another medication. Meds and therapy together tend to be very successful for people. The meds help to control the symptoms of anxiety while you work on coping mechanisms and how to stop the anxious thinking.
Very best of luck...keep in touch!
Sorry to hear you are worrying so much. Maybe look into CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)... I just started it.. it basically retrains you on how to think and address situations, moods and thoughts... so far i have found it to be very good in that.. moods and thoughts are the major contributors to anxiety to begin with so if you address them theoretically you are addressing your anxiety..... good luck
