Trazodone medication

Hi,
I've been suffering with depersonalisation/derealisation over the past 4 weeks due to my ongoing anxiety. I've been prescribed trazodone to try and relieve my symptoms but it's been 3 weeks now with no sign of improvement. I was just wondering if this medication can take longer than this to start working?

ps - My Doctor is away all this week so can't get in touch with him.

  Regards

      Paul

I have had great results with trazodone. It kicked in after about a month but I was sleeping better after the first pill. It does take time but it usually works very well. I hope that it kicks in for you and you start to feel better.

Trazodone is is one of those drugs that either works wonders for one or doesn't work at all. Good to know it has finally kicked in for you.
It's supposedly not supposed to have some of the addictive properties of some other medications out on the market. Than again all drugs can be become dangerous and/or addictive if abused or misused. It's also commonly prescribed for Insomnia.

Well its good that you have slept well, it makes all the difference. You are more than likely feeling detached due to your medication. When your body gets used to the drug your taking you will gradually start feeling a bit more normal, well as normal as anyone can feel when they have an anxiety disorder. Keep your chin up hun, things can only get better. I cope by taking things a day at a time. Anxiety is a nightmare and can mess you up but you have to keep fighting it and most of all be positive. Easy to say (believe me i know) but that but you will get there. There are people here to help you, your not alone i promise you that.

wow, managed to sleep like a baby last night, still feeling detached feeling from everything but I guess that's still the depersonalisation. I suppose that will pass in the near future. it's crazy how anxiety can mess your mind up so much!

i was on 200mg . 100mg in the morning and 100mg before bed. To be honest its hard for me to remember back that far. I do remember that i suddenly started feeling more relaxed and i was sleeping right the way through the night. For me it seemed like a miracle as my sleep was always very disturbed. With the added help of Diazepam  you should most definately sleep better. Its each to their own really as some meds work better for some more than others. Give the tablets time to kick in , maybe another week or 2. If by then you are still having a restless nights sleep i would advise you go back to your gp. Different meds work better for different people. Let us know how you get on. x

Hi,
I'm on 200mg which i take just before bed. I've not been sleeping great on them, probably get about 4-5 hours If i'm lucky. So hoping the added diazepam will give me a couple more hours. What was the most noticeable sign that the tablets were kicking in?

I have just weaned myself off trazodone. I can remember the first time i took it. I had quite bad side effects after the first tablet. Luckily i managed to keep taking them. I took them at night before bed so that most of the effects would have worn off by the tie i had woken the next day. The tablets took a good 4-6 weeks to start working, and the full effect took a few months. Im afraid you are just going to have to be patient. How many milograms are you on?

Thanks so much for the quick response, Today's been the worst day so far, I've felt completely alien to anyone and everything. I've just been to see another Doc and he's given me some Diazepam to try and speed the process up. Hopefully see some improvement in the forthcoming days. Got to say though, this must be the most scary symptoms anyone can experience and I have the greatest of sympathy for anyone going through it!

Once again, thanks for the informative, I'll let you know how I fair up!

    Kind Regards

Hi Paul.  It can take 4-6 weeks for us to see any real improvement in how we feel with these types of medications.  This is the hard part because we all want relief now.  You're amost there, and if when your doctor returns you're not feeling any better let him know. Just remember that every day, brings you one day closer to feeling better!  We're always here to help in any way we can, even if you just need to vent. Hang in there and keep us posted on how you're doing!  Take care.
