Social situations

Hi guys, Ive always been abit of an anxious person and can get really uptight and short of breath in certain social situations. One moment i can be absolutely fine and quite confident and the next i feel in pieces and unable to cope with whats faced in front of me. If i know i have a social event coming up thats abit out of my comfort zone i can feel anxious for long periods.
Does anyone have any advice of something that could possibly be prescribed to me to help me out here?

Many thanks

Oh man I'm the same.  An appt with my lawyer had me nuts a week beforehand and its about my inheritance. There are some antidepressants that are spots to help, like Paxil.  If ur short if breath it cld b a low MVP.panic attack and/or hyperventilation.  I hyperventilate and get real bad chest pains; feels like a heart attack and the first scared the crap outta me.  They gave me klonipin for it.  With ppl like us klonipin does not make us high or tired, just helps with the panicking.  My therapist says it doesn't affect me because "someone as anxious as u needs enough to knock out a horse."  B careful.with sedatives tho.  I kept taking another and another to feel calm and next thing I know everyone is saying my eyes look weird. The Ned was affecting me in that way even tho I nvr got relaxed like I wanted.

Hi Richs28.

Welcome to the forum.

Social anxiety, can be managed or treated, and the key to successful
treatment is  finding the underlying cause.
1.It could be that one has a genetic predisposition to this.
2.It might have to do with brain physiology and neurotransmitters etc.
3.The other possibility is emotional factors.

With #1 well there's no better way than keeping the predisposition as such.
Identifying triggers and their avoidance, along with the use of a remedy such "Rescue"(Bach flower remedy) when there's an unavoidable situation/factor.

#2 Dr. Daniel Amen has some good info on this. Check his website
Also it is important to check out nutritional imbalances, deficiencies, food allergies and intolerance.

#3 Therapy like CBT, Hypnotherapy, Regression Therapy, EFT etc. would help tremendously to clear any underlying stuck emotions.

Meditation, self hypnosis, Deep conscious breathing are some things you can try on your own. Just do a search for those or pm me if you need
details. I'm fairly familiar with all the stuff I recommend.

Cheers,
Niko
