actually I am a Vet and going to my appt. tomorrow, many of you know I just moved here and Let me tell you, not sure where your from but the VA here is San Diego has what I consider the best care around. As for a comment on VA hospital care, yes some are bad, but only in the sense of understaffed and unlike the Civilian Hospitals, The VA HAS to put up with "VETS" who can be some of the most inconsiderate people around, I have 20 years working in a civilian hospital and my partner has 20 yrs working in a Vets hospital, you could not pay me enough to work with a VET, not all but most, sad to say. always want to use the " YOU OWE IT TO ME", this you do not find in civilian hospitals. sorry but I know from being on both sides, I thank my Vets for what they did, but as staff we should not have to be the subjects thier "maddness" about the government not giving enough money to HELP the VA system.

I served in USMC in 1966-67 but did not go to war or overseas...mine is due to sexual assault.  I am not overly fond of VA but there are some good programs out there:  at VA and outside VA. I chose to do the things that work for me and will not do an in-patient treatment:  but that is a chose that others have to make for themselves.  one of my phobi's is to be any distance away from home.  I live in small town, in middle of nowhere (that is what I call it as closest major city is about 150 miles.  We do have small clinic here and hope you are getting help that you need.  You are so right, it does not help to drink or drug away the problem as will be there when you are sober.

I did for a while back in the 80's after going to Beirut. Lousy vet care, still is. When i returned from therer, I was drunk for a year straight. helped me sleep and eased the nightmares. They didnt have anything else, nor did they care.

Although they still dont care about Vet care, there are better treatments today. Seek it out. Do NOT drink it away, or drug it away without a doctors care.

Good Luck, and thank you for your service.
