Woke up to a panic attack...

Has that happened to anyone else? I just went to urgent care yesterday for the hundredth (pretty much) this week and once again was sent home saying I'm fine. Then this morning about five I work up to this pressure and my heart racing, it was so hard to breath. I've never had the sensation of just waking up into a panic attack before, has this happened to anyone else? This place has sort of become a home away from home for me, a place where I seek comfort, a place where I know I'm not alone.

Yes, we've all been there.  There comes a point when you've had several thorough physical work ups that you have to start addressing your issues as being anxiety related.  Anxiety causes a plethora of physical symptoms, and the good news is, they will start to resolve after you start getting the anxiety under control!

Have you ever tried any kind of anxiety treatment?  Medications?  Therapy?

Yeah, I'm on Paxil and Xanax and have had one therapy session so far. It's just never happened to me in the middle of the night like that, where I woke up to it.

Nursegirl is so right and gave you great advice. I think almost all of us anxiety sufferers have woke up to a panic attack. How long have you been on your meds? Even if it's been awhile, you can have break through anxiety and panic attacks sometimes. Paxil worked wonders for me. We're all so different though. What dose are you on?

Yes waking in panic and anxiety happens to me a lot.  I was pleased to read that once the anxiety is under control the physical symptoms will start to go.

Woke up like this numerous times in the past week or so. Last night I got the best night of sleep in weeks without any meds but i sill woke up nervous like I do everyday.

It takes time for the mind and brain to heal from the trama we go through. I've been doing alot better lately after 2 months of anxiety so the panic at night has stopped. But I still feel weird from the experience. The night time attacks were just horrible. It wasnt so much the physical rush of adreniline that surged through my body. It was the feeling of unreality that followed and continued during the day.

Since these attacks started, I have tried a natural approach to anxiety. Besides the 20 mg/day dose of Paxil, I am taking 100 mg of B Complex, 250 mg/day of magnesium, and alternate fish oil and super D3 vitamin. I also read that Ginko Biloba is beneficial but I want to first see if there is any interaction with paxil before taking.

Call it mind over matter if you will butI have been feeling a bit better since starting this regement.
