Xanax

I've been taking 1.5 mg (.5 ms x3 a day) of Xanax for about 3 years now and I went recently to get my prescription refilled and my doctor said that it had been 6 months since I've seen her so I would have to see her before she would refill it,BUT she is moving offices and can't see me until the first week of December. She would only give me 14 .5 mg pills and told me just to take the one .5 mg before I go to bed. 14 pills isn't even enough of just 1 pill per day  to last me until her office opens, but I guess I'm more concerned with the effects of instantly decreasing my dose by 1 mg a day (from 1.5 to .5 w/out weening off). I've been taking Xanax for many years off and on and this seems quite drastic and unsafe to me. Does anyone have any insight on this for me? Thanks.

I think anyone taking xanax at 1.5 mg per day for 3 years is going to have a dependency. My question was why does my doctor not take that into consideration. Especially since I have high blood pressure...just because her office is moving. I think I will make an appt with another doctor. It just doesn't seem right. And actually, I only take it when I need it so I mostly take less than what I've been prescribed, but I can definitely feel the difference with reducing it by an entire milligram. My BP was 140/110 today with medication. That can't be good. I just don't understand her logic.
