I have been on zoloft a few years ago.  After switching to several meds, I decided to go off for 9 months.  My anxiety came back full force.  The psych.  started me on zoloft 2 weeks ago 25 mg I was a mess.  She also gave me Seraquel xr to take at night.  And Kolonopin to take as well ( I was already taking this before the zoloft)  It seems I have been worse in the two weeks.  The second week she upped my dose to 50mg and now she wants me to take 100mg tonight. I am so frightned because the panic is still there.  Please help.

I agree 100% with cj's response regarding what you may experience when upping your dose of Zoloft. You will, more than likely, feel SOME of the same side effects  you had when starting this therapy and that is extremely common and very normal.  You may also have a VERY temporary increase in anxiety, but this is also where having a benzo on hand to take prn (as needed) could help you transition much easier. These side effects will soon vanish as your body adjusts to the higher dose. But you have already dealt with these feelings, so you will understand that they are just a normal part of the "process" and not fear them.
Also, please bear in mind that many people don't feel "rebound" of any kind when upping a dose..........we say it ALL the time here, but it's true, we are ALL different in how we react to medications and there is no reason NOT to believe that your transition to the higher dose will cause you any problems at all.
You did just fine adjusting to your origianl dose, even with some side effects. IF you experience any with the increased dose, they will be no worse than what you already know.
I know you're nervous, but don't cross bridges until you come to them.
You'll be fine, I"m sure of that. You have your doctor, your pharmacist and best of all, you have US if you get "uncomfortable."
Let us know how you're doing, OK? We're always here.

In my experience with Zoloft, I would get some side effects whenever I started, stopped, or changed my dosage.  The good thing is that you know what some of the side effects are and how you reacted initially when you started taking it.  I was on the same dosage and it helped tremendously in the long term in my experience as I went through talk therapy.   I did feel some increased anxiety went I went from 50 to 100mgs in the short term; probably both mental and physical for a bit, but it went away.   Did your doctor prescribe you a benzo to use while you are starting Zoloft?  Quite often people will use it short term while they become used to the SSRI.

Hello there,

It is common when upping your dose to have the side effects to reappear. Common side effect after a change in dosage is nausea that tend to go away after several days. You might have rebound anxiety if you think about having rebound anxiety as a nocebo effect. So i would tell you that you are not supposed to have rebound anxiety after upping a dose.

Best regards,
