Ten mg is way too high. Melatonin works best in lower doses. .5mg or 1mg is a good dose. Only those who don't absorb it well would need much more than that. But anything that works to help you sleep can also leave you groggy. Also remember that melatonin regulates your body clock, and your sleep patterns may be off. As far as side effects, melatonin is one of the safest meds ever tested, but anyone can be sensitive to anything. It sometimes gives me the sweats.
I have tried to take the melatonin but I am not able to. I have trouble sleeping and anxiety and I thought the Melatonin would help. It made me have very strange dreams which just increased my anxiety.
Just my experience with it. Good luck to you!
thanks nursegirl
i was thinkin of lowering the dose from what i read most peeps take 3 mg i was takin 10 mg and just stopped!!
Can you perhaps try a lower dose? Many people swear by melatonin, I personally have never tried it. ANY kind of med, whether prescribed, OTC, or herbal supplement can cause side effects, including rebound anxiety when stopped or a dose is missed. With just one occurence, it's hard to say if that was the cause of your anxiety, or if it was just the anxiety.
If it were me, I would try a lower dose and see how that worked. Let us know!
