anxiety and tingling sensations

Just wondered if anyone else has been through this. About 2 months ago i started having panic attacks. Wasnt sure what they were but thought it was heart related. The heart was ruled out with and ekg and echocardiogram. I get random spells of dizziness lightheadness and stiffness in chest with shortness of breath. They always come in spells. Some days none at all. My blood work was all fine so my doctor put me on paxil for anxiety and lorazapam to use until the paxil kicks in. I dont think it has yet as ive only been using it for 1 and a half weeks. The lorazapam works but makes me too tired so i cant use it during the day. I am very fit 35 yr old male excercise and lift weights 3 to 4 times per week and am still able to exercise with no problems. Thats why i am not certain it is anxiety because i dont think i am stressed. I have also been seeing floaters in my eyes that look like worms. They are clear and move around with my eyes. The optometrist said my eyes check fine. Maybe they are side effects from the medication. I also get muscle twitches but have been for years so i dont know if that is related. Its been 2 and a half months and the symptoms have gotten relatively better but the spells are still there. Sometimes they are a really weird type of headache that makes me tired and spaced out. And i constantly have tingling in my left hand in the two end fingers and in the right side of my face. Could this be spine related maybe as i have a popping in my upper neck every so often and tension in my back.Or maybe a virus? Just looking for any suggestions . Thanks

thanks for all the excellent quick responses. Sometimes i think these forums are more of a diagnosis than the doctors. Doctors always seem rushed and want to get you in and out as fast as possible. And when you tell them that your symptoms match a certain illness or disease they tell you you are wrong.  they tell you to stop looking at the internet.Yet they wont give you the proper diagnosis. I keep telling myself it isnt something serious. Ive gone on with life i continue to excercise, play hockey, lift weights and socialize and drink (a bit less now) on the weekends i dont want to let an illness stop me from doing what i used to do. But the symptoms are there. I am not imagining them. The muscle twitches the dizzynesss, stomach aches, tingling blurred vision etc. I have a hard time beleiving anxiety could cause so many symptoms that affect bodily functions. I am still in the beggining stages with my doctor and i am going to request an MRI just to rule out any neurological disorders. I think 3 months is a long time to be feeling like this. Its not normal. I will stay on the paxil for the time being but if nothing changes then what? When you go from living with no problems at all to all of a sudden so many issues it worries you. Just wondering though how will i know when the paxil is kicking in. If it does work. Will all of the symptoms go away or is it just like lorazapam effects but only all the time. I have never been put on a medication for this type of thing. And hope i wont need to for long. Again thanks for all of the great information if it is actually anxiety i would surprisingly be happier knowing its not something worst. Thanks.

Just wanted to let you know your description sounds much like how I was three years ago after I suffered my first panic attack.  I was 27, ran over 40 miles a week, lifted 3 times a week, loved life, social, and loved life.  I thought I was having a heart attack and ended up getting tests like you did.  I spent months searching for another cause and was not convinced that there was not a medical problem which totally debilitated me.  The only way I was able to 'recover' was learning why I was thinking this.  I found a great therapist and went on medication for awhile and was panic free (without anything) for years.  Accpetance of the anxiety is the first step into recovery.  It takes a lot of courage to admit something like this, especially after being confident and active your whole life.

My anxiety has actually returned after many years and I am again concerned with my heart.  I find anything to justify my conerns (i.e. I had a bp reading of 162 at the docs office even though it dropped down 30 points when I left, I can see my pulse by elbows and my forearm when I bend it despite the doc telling me not o be concerned).  I tend to 'sort' for the bad information.  Never mind my BP is normal at home, I catacstrophicsize every bodily sensation.  And as far as feeling your symptoms; anxiety can do all of that, and one of my chief complaints was what you described with your eyes.

Paxil, which is an SSRI, can take up 5-6 weeks to start feeling the full effects of it.  I am back on Zoloft and it actually made me a little more on edge for a while as I got used to it.  Continue to work with your doc and ensure that you are talking this through with a therapist to understand your anxiety.

You've gotttten some really great answers to your questions. Why not join us? Instructions are below. But first, I DO have ONE question for you:

Did you ask your doctor what you asked us? If not, why not, and if you did ask, what was the answer? I'm not wagging my finger at you, I'm concerned that doctors don't give their patients enough information. Again and again, people put in their apperance on this forum and ask if their feelings are "normal," if the feelings are a sign of anxiety, etc., etc. That's great! That's what we are here for. But I'm beginning to wonder if the docs are spending enough time explaining -or if patients are really disclosing everything (lots of times you think of something AFTER you leave the doctor's office).

What was YOUR experience with your doctor? By the way, we want you with us. Here's how to join: Just click the Join Link -enter some profile information about yourself -even a picture if you care to- and anything you think would help us get to know you faster and better, and you can change this material whenever you like. You will also be accessible to receive private messages when other members click the name you've given yourself -sort of a "push to talk" feature. After you've done that, spend some time just using various features of the forum. For example, to see all the posts or responses that someone has made, just click their handle, go to their profile, click Posts, and read to your heart's content. You may also enter search terms -including member names- in the search box at the upper right of your screen and the system will retrun everything matching the term(s) you entered. This INCLUDES a drug database that will give you both user posts about drugs as well as the medical information about the drug. A great way to get quick answers about therapeutic effect, side effects, interactions, etc.

One of the profile categories is your mood, which you may change anytime you like.

Along the right side of your screen is a section of Recent Activity, which not only alerts you to new posts, but new ANYTHING, including journal entries and mood. This is a way to telegraph the community at large without actually creating a separate post. Thus, if you see a friend's mood has changed while you are working on a response or post, it can alert you to send them a private message to learn more or simply let them know you're thinking of them. Likewise, if you are going to be "out," you could enter something like "off line for the night" as your mood, and people would know you're away from the forum for awhile.

"My Medhelp" is where you'll find all the features you can deploy: messaging, lists of friends, photos, etc.

If you do this kind of exploring and experimenting right away, you'll be up-to-speed quickly. If you see the message you are reading now as part of a direct response I (or anyone) has made to one of your posts, it was probably copied and pasted from this journal. I hate form letters and auto-responses as much as anyone -but I also hate forgetting to tell people what they need to know, so this is my safety-net. Consider it as part of your "Welcome" kit. So -please join and try things out.

You might also want to read my entries for the "Right Click Trick" and "When in Haste, Use Copy 'n Paste" for some other convenient time-savers.

We're glad you are here!

What are you are describing are all symptoms of anxiety.

For me, I don't think I even have to be stressed out to get anxiety.

When I do get it, usually once a month, and it lasts for about 2 weeks.
I get parinoia in my stomach, like BAD BUTTERFLIES, shaking legs, my left ear usually starts tingling... then when I have these symptoms.. its like a downward spiral of fear on WHY do I have this?

This is all new to me too. Just happened 6 months ago.

I was prescribed on Lexapro for anxiety, and Lorazepam for sleep/whenever needed.

I took Lexapro for about 3 months... and was still having the symptoms about once a month... for a 2 week period.

I went off the meds b/c I've never had this problem, and since they werent working for me.. getting off of them actually made me feel better.

Im going to start seeing a pscyhologist, and see if I can't cure my anxiety problem this way. B/c I think mine may be SELF BROUGHT ON.

Good luck to you. Nothing wrong with meds. Hope they help you get through this.

Hi. I`m no expert by any stretch of imagination but theres one thing i do know from experience. Anxiety and stress exacerbate the slightest of body ailments. About a month ago I was unfaithful to my wife and put myself at risk of an STD. I have had every symptom of nearly every disease going. You know why? It takes alot for me to admit this but most of it I rreally think is in my head. A slight tingle in my penis becomes an STD (even though if my mind is taken off it temporarily it disappears). I then worry it might be something else. Normal body ensations suddenly become symptoms of onr illness or another and our anxiety levels increase, which inturn causes us to worry more, which in turn makes us notice more things.
I knwo this might not be the answer you`re looking for. Headaches for example are normal. Everybody gets them. Stress and anxiety and fear bring on tingling and nausea as well as a host of other` feelings`.
You`ll probably find when you`re alone they`re worse. If thats the case then some of it is brought on by yourself. Good luck
