Hi, I'm a nutritionist. Everyone medicates with alchol! The reason why people drink is to relax. Most people feel like they must drink when they are around other people because they are nervous. This is very, very, common. It's o.k. to drink once or twice a week. But don't do it every day. You'll ruin your liver and you'll ruin your life. Better to get on an antidepressant if you have social phobia, or take xanax a few times a week when your having severe anxiety.
First off, I applaud you honesty and courage. I think it takes a lot to come out and say what you did. But no, you are definitely NOT the only one who uses alcohol to escape from anxiety, stress, or whatever else is bothering you. I've done it. Lots of people do it. It is easy and it works. That is why alcohol is one of the most abused drugs. But, as you already know, it is not a solution and can even add to your problems. I suggest finding healthier alternatives. Good luck!
No, you are definitely not the only one that medicates themselves with alcohol, often times, a couple of drinks make us feel more relaxed. I find that after a couple of glasses of wine, I feel much better, but beyond a couple of glasses, I am a mess the next day and sometimes days after. Beware, there is a chance that it will increase your anxiety over time. Have you seen your Dr. regarding axiety? Is alcohol the only way you get through it? Though I like a couple of glasses of wine once in a while, I am in therapy, as well as a daily dose of Lexapro. Alcohol as a solution to anxiety is not a good idea.
Take Care,
Kristine
