I agree that it is important to rule out a physical cause first, especially b/c a fever generally WOULD indicate some type of infection. That being said, I myself have experienced low grade temps (under 100) during and after a significant panic attack. When it has ever happened to me, the temp would return to normal after the panic subsided.
The "chilled" feeling is very typical with anxiety also, and generally speaking, a fever that low wouldn't cause rigors (chills).
So, your best bet is to go see your doc and get a once over to rule out an infection, and then if everything checks out okay, it only makes sense to address the anxiety at that point. Best of luck, let us know how you're doing! :0)
I agree that you can get "hot" with anxiety, but your temp doesn't rise. You can be sweating like crazy but your temp will remain the same. When the brain kicks into the fight or flight mode, it floods your body with adrenaline which in turn may make you feel hot and even sweat, but no rise in the body's temperature. Your body temp will only rise when it is fighting off something.
I beg to differ. No offence meant to the above poster. But if you panic it is like the brain picking up signals of danger. Danger we tell it that exists. Though there is no real danger. All in the mind. The blood will flow to the parts of the body were it is needed most. That can cause chills in my own opinion. But then the panic / anxiety brings on sweats. Just another symptom. So we are burning up. I am not for one moment this is what is happening to you. May be far from it. How you would know is over a period of time. A virus would last a short time. Anxiety might last a lot longer. You never did say if this was the first time this has ever happened to you. That is important in the overall picture for us to be able to know if it is anxiety. But I do be hot a times. Bloody freezing at other times. This when others think it is hot. I know it is just my anxiety. So I give it no real attention at all by now. And it goes easily. Once I don't focus on it. The joys of anxiety. Would hope it is just a virus. That would be better for you.
Your temp is slightly elevated, I would seek medical advice before assuming it's anxiety related. I've never heard of anxiety causes a fever, it sounds more like you're fighting some type of infection or virus. If everything checks out okay then you need to address if it is anxiety related. Take care...
