Greenlydia pretty much covered what I was trying to say.  The only use for Buspar now as far as I know is as an augmentation for an ssri.  As a stand-alone, in clinical trials it has virtually never beaten placebo, but they do keep trying.  But hey, if it works for you, I'm happy, you're happy, I just don't want you wasting your time and money, but I didn't know you've crapped out on so many other meds.  Perhaps it's time to try the natural route with a naturopath or practitioner of integrated medicine, given the meds don't seem to last with you.  Good luck.

Thank you all. I've been tried on almost all of them besides lexapro. I'm so afraid they effect my heart with my heart conditions.

Bu Spar and Wellbutrin (aka Zyban for smoking cessation) are actually two totally different medications.  Their nonproprietary names are VERY similar, which is what sometimes causes that confusion.  Bu Spar's generic name is buspirone, and Wellbutrin's is bupropion.  At quick glance, they almost look to be the same.

I have to agree that I've honestly never seen a LOT of real positive feedback about Bu Spar for anxiety, and many liken it to taking not much more than Benadryl in terms of it's affinity for anxiety.  That is not to say you won't be successful with it.  All ANY of us can do is try a med out, give it ample time to work, and then reevaluate how we feel.  If it didn't work, we move onto the next.  It's all trial and error pretty much.

The one thing I CAN say about it is it seems to be fairly easy to tolerate for most people, with not a lot of side effects being consistently reported, compared to some of the other, more commonly Rx'ed meds for anxiety (like the SSRI antidepressants).  Why not give it a try and see what happens?

If you ended up building a tolerance to benzos, to be honest, I'm NOT very optimistic that the Bu Spar will be very effective for you.  As for the SSRIs, what all have you tried, at what dose, and for how long?  Are you in therapy?  Medications can certainly help to control the symptoms of anxiety, but the real, lasting results come from therapy.

Good luck to you!  Who knows?  Maybe the Bu Spar will work?  It wouldn't hurt to try!  Let us know how it's going.

I've came out bad with the SSRIs benzos have been the best for me but have little effect anymore and I've went threw bad withdrawals with this med is there anything like benzos that last longer with less risk of getting addicticted. SSRIs all made panic worse and feel like crap km scarred to take them and I heard they had bad effects on the heart. Witch I already have rbbb neurocardiogentic syn scope and bradicardia with PVCs. Thanks for all the advice with the meds

From several of the posts I've read here many people do not do well on Buspar as far as it helping their anxiety. It's an older med and from the research I've done it, it can come with many side effects.
Has your Dr talked about putting you on a newer med like an SSRI antidepressant and or another anti anxiety med to help with your anxiety?

What I believe Paxiled meant was that BuSpar hasn't exactly been a stellar success at helping with ANY of the disorders it's prescribed for.

It's "main" function/use is for treatment of depression, but it's efficacy for that disorder is minimal at best and in some circles is gaining a reputation as the "low rent" antidepressant. (It is often sold under the name Wellbutrin when used for depression)

When it was discovered that people taking BuSpar for depression found they smoked fewer cigarettes, BuSpar than tried breaking into THAT  market along with Chantix and Nicorette. I asked for it during one of my own attempts to quit smoking.......and while waiting......and waiting and waiting for it to work, I began to smoke even more! My opinion of it's use for smoking cessation took a fatal nose dive. (For smoking cessation, it is sold as Zyban)

SAD, or seasonal affective disorder, was the next issue they threw BuSpar at. It didn't stick on that wall very well, either. Results were disappointing.

Then came neuropathic pain, enhancement of weight loss, (?) and ADHD.
It came in dead last in so many trials, one had to wonder why the pharmaceutical company kept trying to revive the poor thing.

If somebody writes in and says they've been fighting depression for a long time but they don't seem to be getting any better on the BuSpar they've been taking for months, many of us have a tendency to roll our eyes.

In MY humble and totally non-medical opinion, I would rate BuSpar about one star above a placebo.

Naturally, there will be poeple who respond to this post with all manner of praise and success stories regarding their experience with BuSpar. Those stories are no doubt true, and just maybe it WILL be a wonder drug for you. We never know what's going to work for us until we try it. Every BODY is different.

But the science is there regarding BuSpar and it's difficult to argue with science.

Paxiled, I don't believe, was saying this was a bad, scary or harmful drug that you should be wary of. Rather, I believe, he was saying there are better choices (and chances) for you to gain relief from your depression than with BuSpar.
And I totally agree with him.

But I shouldn't try and speak for him. Hopefully he will weigh in with his response.

This is MY opinion only. It is strictly between you and your doctor which medication(s) to try.

Try the BuSpar. If it doesn't work, there are many other options out there.
I wish you the best
Peace
Greenlydia

Thanks Paxiled, I needed that. Extremely good advice as well.

Also ask if it does anything.  This keeps coming up, but buspar alone hasn't done well at all in testing.  It's an old drug in constant search of something to treat.

This is something you should discuss with your cardiologist if you have heart problems.

While the doctor prescribing this medication is no doubt aware (or should be) about your heart issues, many medications do have some cardio side effects.

Nobody here is qualified to tell you if a medication would be safe for you to take. Be safe, ask your cardio.
Peace
