Tell me what I have

I usually have feeling of anxiety in the middle of the day. It usually start out with me having a high level of anxiety in the morning. I cant explain why I am nervous but I know it has something to do with school (college). My anxiety usually calms down a little bit after morning passes but some of it still carries on with me for the rest of the day.

I sometimes have what seems like a night time panic attack ( 2 -3 times a month). I wake up in the middle of the night and I am scared senseless. I cant comprehend by I am scared but It feels like my life is over; impending doom, so to speak. It last about 5-10minutes.

I am not on any medication and have to medical problems. I have tried taking some anti-anxiety herbs: Valerian root (valeric acid) and Kava extract (kavalactones). I've always felt that anxiety is a normal part of life but to me it seems that I have a much higher level of anxiety than anyone that I know.

I have another problem, perhaps it is related to this as well. I tend to have a low level of focus. It is difficult for me the remain focused at school or when I am doing school work. I often find myself thinking of other things. Is this normal?

Thank you.

Hi Michael,

What you are feeling and the symptoms that you are receiving are all very normal indeed. I too have experienced exactly what you describe, and even sometimes now it comes and goes but once you learn to manage it, it becomes less and less.

It sounds to me that you are experiencing some anxiety and a wee bit of panic also. Are you under a lot of stress in your life at present? as this could be the underlying cause of some or most of this.

Have you tried, meditation as this is very relaxing and completely releases you from any fear and relaxes your tense muscles as well, which will in turn calm down your mind if it is any way overactive. Also, speaking of herbs, have you tried to drink some chamomile tea, which is completely caffeine free, this also helps a lot. Also rescue remedy is another.

Take care hun,

I should probably also mention that once in a while my anxiety will lead to nausea.
