Afraid to sleep!!!

Last night i woke up out of breathe. I was really scared so i ran into my moms room. Also my heart was racing. After about like 2 minutes i calmed down and went back to bed. I slept the rest of the night with no problems. I think i was sleeping flat on my back when i usaually sleep on my stomach. Now im scared to go to sleep because im afraid that this might happen again

Hi mike
It's very possible that you were simply woken up from a nightmare. Perhaps in the dream you were running, being chased, climbing a mountain or steep hill which is why you woke up out of breath and your heart pounding. If it only took you a couple of minutes to calm down and go back to sleep, I'd tend to think this is what happened.
You don't say how old you are, but I'm guessing somewhere in adolescence which is a time when our dreams can be extremely vivid.
I understand your fear of going to sleep which is a very normal reaction to the experience you had.
I can only suggest that you brave it out and see what happens. Try watching something funny on TV before going to bed or go to bed and read a book just for pleasure, preferrably not anything spooky.
If this keeps happening, then it would be time for your folks to take you to see your doctor. Stress, whether it's from school, sports or other activities or the 9-5 grind for adults, can cause any of us to wake up as you did.
I'm sure you'll be fine and that this was a one time event.
Sleep tight!
Peace

Well Mike, I think you've found the answer. Your junior year in high school can be one of the most stressful, as you're finding out.
While not neglecting your studies, be sure to find time to relax and enjoy life and your friends. Get plenty of exercise, rest and fresh air. Don't hesitate to talk to your friends about how stressful life is right now, I'm sure they are feeling it too and it's a great stress reliever to talk about it.
If you find you are still having difficulties coping, please go and talk to your guidance counselor. That is what they are trained to do and it's why they're there, to help. Don't hesitate to take advantage of what they have to offer.
You are in a wonderful, exciting, challenging............. and yes, stressful time of your life, you will survive it well so enjoy every minute of it. Life goes by so swiftly.
Peace
Greenlydia
P.S.
I hope you get the college you want! I'll root for ya!
