health anxiety

by momof3317, Nov 30, 2007 09:35AM
Hi!  I'm new to medhelp - just wondering if any of you ladies out there have breast health anxiety?  I go in phases of constantly checking my underarms and breasts to make sure I don't feel anything abnormal to worry about - I am very good about getting mammograms, etc.

any thoughts would be helpful -

thanks!  momof3317

I check myself all the time too.i had benign lumps last year but I was a month waiting for the biopsy report think I might have cancer. then I did have thyroid cancer so it is alwasy in tha back of my mind .Last year was rough for me and my family but I am ok now but I still check all the time,If it is becoming an obsession though you might want to consider therapy.

I have had breast issues since I was 15.  I have had two surgerys to remove benign lumps, but waiting to find that out is real torture.  I was so upset this last time-'06 that I worked myself up to think that I for SURE had breast cancer and probably only had a little time left.  I didn't realize that I had anxiety back then however.  It reared it's ugly head in '07...amazing how it can happen AFTER and not during sa stressful situation.

I hope you feel better and soon.

Thanks to you both for your replies!  I am frustrated because I know it's not normal to constantly check and re-check!  Anyway, thanks for the feedback!
