Oh Sweetie.........do NOT hate yourself for something you have no control over! You didn't choose to have anxiety any more than the rest of us did. I want you to banish that thought right now!
Getting "emotional and breaking down" are actually very healthy signs in therapy. It means you're getting closer to the source of your anxiety.
Wondering why you can't be like your other friends, while that's a pretty normal question, keep in mind that your friends may have their own problems that you know nothing about. Comparing yourself to what you perceive as perfect and worry free lives of your friends will only keep you feeling negative about yourself. Can you talk to your friends about your anxiety and try to explain what it feels like? It may just open a whole new door of your friendships. And even better, it may give someone else the courage to admit they have the same problem. It's no secret that thousands of people with anxiety are still "in the closet" because they think they are mentally ill or going crazy. At least we know what we have.
Being tired is a prime symptom of anxiety. When you live with constant fear and worry, it's exhausting.
Perhaps instead of taking the valium on an as needed basis, why not discuss going on a long term benzo like Klonopin with your therapist? It prevents you from having attacks and that frees up a great deal of emotional space to work on the therapy part of your recovery.
Like I said, recovery is going to take time so please accept that and don't add the burden of impatience on yourself.
There is so much that is right and good about your life and this one lousy stumbling block, so make it a priority to get it out of your life.
You ARE going to be OK, ya know.
Peace

That's really great that you're seeing a therapist. Is he/she trying you on any medication?
I know it's frustrating because the going can be a bit slow at times, we want answers and solutions ASAP, but it usually doesn't work that way. It's also hard work, isn't it? We find things we just don't want to face about ourselves, but to heal, to strive for recovery, we have to.
I admire your determination.
Just keep working at it and with each breakthrough, you will become more motivated and proud of yourself.
I promise that it gets easier!
Keep posting, Toots. We're all here.
Peace

Hi Vicky,
You've been posting for quite awhile and have received some great advice and support. So many of us know exactly what you're going through and we know how difficult and scary it can be.
The one undeniable fact that a great many of us finally came to understand and accept was that we needed more help than we could get on a forum. We needed professional help in the form of therapy, often combined with medications. I didn't go back and review all your posts, so I'm uncertain if you're in therapy or not, but if you aren't, I would strongly urge you to look into it as a way out of the anxiety cycle. There is a saying in this country that when you find yourself in a hole you can't get out of.............STOP DIGGING! I think you've reached that point. In no way am I telling you to stop writing to us for support, we will always be here if you need us, but all the support and understanding we have to offer will NOT fix you.
You are so young and your whole life is ahead of you. Don't be like so many of us who waited until the hole was so deep, the walls were caving in on us.
Do what WE didn't know to do which was to get pro-active in our own mental health.
In the end, we all have to drive our own bus.
I wish you well
Peace
