That really stinks that you were misdiagnosed for all those years, getting the wrong treatment. And the drugs they use for schizophrenia aren't very nice! What kind of moron doctor doesn't know the difference between schiziphrenia and anxiety/depression? THAT is what's really spooky to me!
This doctor who put you on the Celexa and told you to keep taking it "no matter what side effects you THOUGHT you had," is right up there in the running for moron of the year as well.
I hope you get in her face about what happened to you. Like you said, what the hell would have happened to you if you'd taken her advice! I'd sure as hell ask her THAT question!
I know you are not happy being back on the Klonopin after working so hard to get off, but at least you are familiar with this med and it's apparently already helping you feel more like yourself, so try not to be too disappointed. Feeling normal right now is more important...........we'll worry about getting off the Klonopin later.
I don't know what to say about the Canadian health care system. We've always heard how bad it was, but what options do you have? Can you come down here for medical care? I don't know what the laws are. But what a hassle that would be!
Sounds like if you could just find a good doctor, that would at least be a step in the right direction.
Surely there must be therapist in your area! Maybe you have to self-pay, is that what you meant? That your insurance doesn't cover therapy? Any chance you can afford it? Can you work out payments that you can handle? I wish I had some answers for you.
Everybody is in such a world of hurt now with the cost of healthcare............we're all paddling leaky canoes!
You know I'm always here, so write anytime.
I wish you the best...........you'll be OK. You're a survivor!

I am taking clonazepam 2 times a day now to counter act the side effects of serotonin syndrome. It's a shame because it took me 2 years to get off clonazepam in the first place. The shaking seems to be stopping, and my bulging eyes and racing thoughts, and jumpiness are subsiding.
There supposedly is a warning that it could happen from one pill. I told my doctor over and over that I am very sensitive to drugs, and she said it was in my head and to keep taking the celexa NO MATTER WHAT SIDE EFFECTS I THINK I HAVE. Wow, if I had listened to her, what would have happened to me?
I have been through the mill with Canada's healthcare. I was misdiagnosed with schizophrenia for FOUR years and was on about 30 different meds in those years. Now they are saying I just have anxiety and a bit of depression.
My life has never been so bad since I got started with canada's healthcare. They don't offer any counselling or therapy or support groups that are covered in this province, and they just pump you full of free drugs like candy. I don't know how to cope with anything anymore other than taking pills.
I'm glad that you got checked out. I'm also in Canada and have taken Celexa.....had some bad side effects in the beginning - but nothing like you described.
All the best!!
Are you saying you got serotonin syndome from ONE 10mg dose of Celexa? That's scary!
I can certainly understand your anger, but why be angry with the Canadian health system? It was the drug that did this to you. I'd sure be talking to someone in the National Health Dept. about this ASAP, as well as the pharmaceutical company that manufactures Celexa. Is there any warning on the label that this might happen?
I am so sorry this happened to you and am glad that you will be OK in a few days.
Please let us know how you're doing, OK?

I went to emergency today. They said I have serotonin syndrome. It will take days til I'm well again to be able to use my hands properly and stuff. I have lost all faith in Canada's healthcare. I have been through too much. I hate this.
I have no idea if that is a normal side effect or not, but if it's as extreme as you say, I'd call my doctors office and have his service have him call you. You could also call a pharmacy if any are open where you are. I would suggest not taking any more until you've talked to your doctor.
I'm sure you're going to be fine............try to relax and drink lots of water.
Please let us know what the doctor said.
Peace
