lexapro questions

by slee56, Sep 30, 2008 07:40AM
I was given lexapro from my dr 2  weeks before my surgery in late July.. Was given some samples and it really works for me to balance me out... I was given a perscription for 30 days and some more samples. The thing now is that my state medicare does not allow lexapro as a step one med so they have suggested switching to Zoloft.. I would rather just stay on the lexapro rather then try to switch to something that might not work. I have been trying to get this resolved and have help from my GP here locally. I will see her on the 7th so maybe can figure out something else to try or just continue to get samples?? I know that the lexapro works for me so would prefer to not mess with it but maybe something else would work better??

If the medication is working than I would try to stay on it somehow.  I only say this because while medications like Lexapro and Zoloft are in the same class some work better than others (I actually prefer Zoloft) and it can be trial and error until you find the right one for you, which it sounds like you are doing.  But don't panic if you have to change.  There are plenty of other ones in the same class as Lexapro both in name brands and generics.  Please keep us posted!

Well, if you do want to stay on Lexapro but if money is  concern, if you have a Walgreen's, they have a prescription program that is an small annual fee but has saved me -hundreds- on my medications. You can always check to see if Lexapro or the generic of it is on their plans. I have no insurance myself, so the plan there has been a life saver for me.

I was on lexapro in the beginning and I have had my meds switched several times from lexapro, welbutrin, then I was takin lexapro and welbutrin, and it wasnt helping so now im taking Zoloft...  Zoloft is really good for me, it is helping me tremendous... its actually helped me better than lexapro, but everyone is different...  I was also afraid of switching...  I would atleast give it a chance, and see if it works...if it doesnt then you can tell your insurance...  my insurance did the same to me when I was taking lexapro and then they put me on the generic one, which made my symptoms worse, so I argued with them and they put me back on lexapro...   but everyone is different to meds...  Zoloft works for me...
