pain on the left chest

pain on the left chest

i am a 39 yrs old single mother of three children under 6 yrs old. I suffer from anxiety disorder. Untill a year ago, i was very healthy and had no symptom of anxiety, but one night out of the blue i just woke up from sleep  with a terrible feeling as i was dying, but i had no pain and no other symptom. I called the ambulance and was rushed to the hospital. Every test showed negative. From that day, i have had many panic attacks and over the last months it has got worse. The last 4 months i have a constant pain on my left chest under the breast that does not go away. The pain seems to be there all the time. I have been to the doctor several times and during the last 2 months i have done about 5 ekg and they were all normal. I sometimes fear i am having a heart attack. I also fear i might be having problems with my heart but my doctor keeps on teeling me my heart was fine. I used to be very active, but nowadays i am just afraid to overstrain myself because i think i might get a heart attack if i do so. My question, is this, is the pain on the left chest due to anxiety? Is there anyone here who has the same symptom? I live in Sweden.

Hello there,

Since all your tests came back normal i highly doubt that there is a medical condition related to this.

There are a lot of anxiety symptoms and you can see them all on this page http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Mental%20Health/What-are-the-symptoms-of-anxiety/show/124?cid=60

One thing you must know is that the pain your are describing have nothing to do with heart related problem and not because the pain is on the left means it is because of the heart. Heart problems symptoms will cause a pain more referred in the center of the chest ( sternum ). Most of the time it is an intense pressure or deep aching pain in the center of the chest and it is most of the time accompanied with other symptoms.

I don't want to trigger a panic attack here but have you been tested for breast cancer? Better be safe than sorry. The sooner they diagnose a breast cancer the better is the prognostic. So it might be a good idea to get tested for this issues considering your age and mother status.

Please consider that I'm not a doctor and those issues must be discussed with a qualified doctor.

Best regards,
M4
