Many folks on this forum have, or are, taking PAXIL. I personally have no experience with this med, but I'm sure you will be getting some responses soon. Just keep watching and if you haven't heard anything by tomorrow, post again using "Paxil" in your title. And spend some time browsing around and read what others have written about this med.
I can understand you not wanting to take pills, but you and your doctor obviously discussed your need for this type of med. He/she should have given you far more information than they did, but that's docs for ya! With them it seems everything is on a "need to know" basis and, apparently, we, as patients, don't "need" to know. So we end up here.............
Good luck

hi mehrshad,
wheather you are taking Paroxetine (Paxil) for depression or anxiety or panic or ocd or ptsd or social anxiety, you should know that it is a HIGHLY EFFECTIVE medication.

what about the medication worries you? you can discuss with your doctor about starting only half the starting dose initially to give you some assurance of its side effects. paxil can be sedating so most people take it at night. the top 3 side effects are headahces, nausea and sexual dysfunction. all of these resolve over time as the body becomes accustomed to the new medication.

just briefly, it is in the class of SSRI (the first line and most popular class) Antidepressants and it will take approximately 6 weeks for the mediation to take effect for most people. some do respond in as little as 2 weeks. the medication should not be stopped cold turkey to avoid withdrawl.  your doc may have to increase the dose if you can tolerate it for full effect.

The best information I can give you is found at this link:

God bless,

I have taken paxil for a long time.  I have panic disorder with agoraphobia and also depression.  The paxil helped me very much for depression - not so much with pani or anxiety although I know it is prescribed for that purpose.   I went off of it in July and back on it in November as I was very depressed.  I recently went back off of it and am doing O.K.  I was lucky in that I never had much of a problem in going off or on paxil.  I believe it took 3 to 6 weeks for it to work.  How many mg. are you on?
