They are two different types of medication. Xanax is a medication classified as a benzodiazepine (or what many people refer to as 'benzos') and the Celexa is a type of medication known as an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor). They are often prescribed concurrently and I have taken both types. Short acting benzos like Xanax are usually prescribed short term on an as needed basis, while SSRIs are usually prescribed more long term and are required to take on a regular schedule. Just ensure that you follow your doctor's orders when taking any prescription medication.
I am still on an SSRI like Celexa and have benefited from it quite well. Just keep in communicatin with your doctor and/or pharmacist and remember to ask questions....keep us posted!

I'd be careful with the benzos though. My Dr. prescribed them "short term" for 4 years.... I'm 4.5 months free from that drug, and still having withdrawal issues.
