Welcome!
I agree completely that seeing your doc is a great starting point. Try not to worry too much about what to expect. When diagnosing anxiety, many docs (especially psychiatrists) use a series of questions relating to your mood, anxiety, worry, stressors, etc. Just answer the questions honestly and your doc will be able to offer treatment suggestions. Staying open minded is very important. Don't rule out any kind of treatment option.
If you see your PCP, he or she may refer you to a psych, therapist, or both. Sometimes PCP's manage anxiety fine with medications, other people do better with a psychiatrist. Your family doc is a good starting place!
Good luck...let us know how you're doing!
Def. go. It will only help you! =) More than likely he/she will do the standard, weigh you, take your temp, blood pressure, then listen to your heart/vitals. Then ask you whats up, whats going on... you tell him your story. And he'll tell you, YUP ANXIETY.
He/she may then suggest trying an anti-depressant, a mild one.. and or with a mild benzodiazapene like ativan. Ativan saves me. =)
Then the dr. will prob. suggest you see a therapist.. or just wait 3 weeks and see how the meds are helping.
It may not go exactly that way. lol. but probably similar. Youll be great man.
Im not a doctor but if I were you I would talk to my doctor as soon as I could get in for an appt. Are you seeing a therapist maybe your gp could refer you to one if you're not
