anxiety misdiagnosis? help

Hello all  here is my story so far hoping someone may be able to steer Me in the right direction. January this year I started feeling like was going to collapse at work I went to a & e and had ecg and tests they said I was fine .I saw a gp told me I got a virus that attacked my inner ear and was told by gp it was tinnitus. symptoms got worse  over the next few weeks so I went back the gp told me it was labyrinthitus . A few weeks later I was no better and was put on diazapam and cetalapram for depression I then started to get pins and needles in my head I was vague and not with it doing stupid things like laying the table with all knives and finding it hard to concetrate . I started to halucinate and heariing voices . I went to see my gp who admitted me to hospital where I had lumbar puncture MRI on head ct scan And blood done all fine . While in hospital I was still on citralapram and was experiencing massive pressure head aches pins and needles in back of head fast heartbeat . I was sent home with unknown reasons found. I then figured that most of the symptoms had got a lot worse on the antidepressants so I looked over the reaction list in the box and could tick everybox for serotonin syndrome caused by the pills . I went to see my gp again who confirmed I had s reaction to the pills so I stopped them. After the hospital ordeal I now have gerd and have been told I feel so bad because of anxiety and panic disorder. I really am struggling to believe its anxiety as I have blurred vision feel very weak all the time I can see myself go from a good color to pale . I am on omeprezole for the gerd which I have stopped taking because I am worried its the cause of me feeling so rotten. My gp now just fobs me off saying its anxiety and just says I am fine . I don't feel fine I feel like I have a serious problem and no one will listen. Please help . Regards ross

No, you shouldn't be overly worried.  If it continues, just tell your doctor again.  I'm glad you at least got worked up for it.

Sorry I wasn't being very clear I could taste it at the back of my throat so I coughed and spat into the sink siliva and fresh  blood . I kept on spitting small amounts into the sink for a couple of minutes then it cleared . I have told my gp ad its happened a few times today was the most though  . Should I be worried I have had a chest x ray and that was fine .

I'm not sure I really understand.  Are you coughing this up?  Is it bright red?  Brown?  If you have a bad chest cold, you can cough up some blood, but if it persists, you need to tell you doc (if you haven't already).

Bringing up blood? How?  Where?  You didn't mention that.  That would not be anxiety related.

I agree with mammo.  Sometimes, the hardest part is accepting that anxiety is the culprit.  It's so hard to imagine that such real physical symptoms are related to anxiety!  But, they are!

You've been hospitalized, had numerous diagnostic studies, and you always got a clean bill of health.  That is a GOOD thing.  While having anxiety is frustrating and certainly no fun, you definitely don't want a medical condition either!

Dive into anxiety treatment, with a psychiatrist, not your GP.  He/she will be better suited to prescribe and manage any medications.  Therapy is also a must, CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) is a very helpful form of therapy for those with anxiety and panic.  Ask your psych about it, to refer you to a proper therapist.

It may still take you a while to fully accept that this is anxiety, but like mammo said, you have nothing to lose by trying, and once you DO start treating it, if your symptoms were attributed to anxiety, when the anxiety starts to subside, so will all of your other symptoms, which is proof posotove the docs were right.

Hang in there, it's not easy, we understand.  You're among people who have lived it, and gone through the very same circumstances.  Read the forum, you will find people from all walks of life who were/are in the same boat as you.  With treatment, the quality of your life WILL improve.

Hi......Anxiety can cause such terrible symptoms that it does become hard to accept that our problem is anxiety, and nothing more.  But we always suggest that one rule out all other causes first (which you have done) before accepting that it's anxiety.  I feel you have a few things going on....you had a reaction to the Citolopram and then stopped cold turkey...this causes a lot of terrible withdrawal symptoms and this combined with anxiety can really make one feel lousy.  I think you need to find a psychiatrist as they are specialists dealing with anxiety and medications and go from there.  You've been checked out thoroughly for all other causes and I feel it's time to either rule anxiety in or out.  Anxiety can be like any other medical condition requiring daily medication to control the symptoms, and therapy can help as well.  Although you had a bad reaction  to the Citolopram doesn't mean you will with another medication and this is where the psychiatrists' play an important role.  Your GP should have referred you to a psychiatrist as he is not specialized in this field.  I feel it's imperative that you address this to determine if it is anxiety.......and I feel it is. Instead of continuing to feel badly, seek help with a specialist so you will at least know....if you discover that it's not anxiety then you will have exhausted that idea and will be able to get the doctors to take you seriously.  If you read through some posts on here you will find many who are dealing with very bad symptoms of anxiety, who also find it hard to believe that anxiety can cause such bad symptoms...but it does and you need to address this right away.  You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.  I hope this helps and you can finally get some peace.  Take care and keep us posted on how you're doing.
