sleep disorder

dear sir ,  my   doctor prescribed me  d-veniz 50mg, lonazep0.5,adesam 400mg dialy...........for mood swings ,anxiety and migrains and for forgetfulness..            is this right medication given to me??????

Hello there,

That's a bunch of meds for sleep disorder, anxiety and migrains... Lorazepam is definitely going to help you with sleep but it is very addictive and not suggested as a long term treatment. One thing i recommend to people with sleep disorder is melatonin ( can be bought over the counter to your local natural supplements store ).

Taken 30 to 90 minutes before bedtime, melatonin supplementation acts as a mild hypnotic. It causes melatonin levels in the blood to rise earlier than the brain's own production accomplishes.

A very small dose taken several hours before bedtime in accordance with the phase response curve for melatonin in humans (PRC) doesn't cause sleepiness but, acting as a chronobiotic (affecting aspects of biological time structure),[50] advances the phase slightly and is additive to the effect of using light therapy upon awakening. Light therapy may advance the phase about one to two-and-a-half hours and a small oral dose melatonin, timed correctly some hours before bedtime, can add about 30 minutes to the advance achieved with light therapy.''

Personally i think melatonin is a good first choice since it's the natural sleep hormone.

Anyway before trying this and throwing off Lorazepam you must discuss with your doctor and you need to inform him of you intention to see any possible drug interaction that can happen. Not because it's a natural hormone means there can be no interaction. It is metabolized by CYP1A2 enzyme and this enzyme and a bunch of other meds are metabolized that way. Better be safe than sorry.
