Amor is right on the money. Usually Prozac or Lexapro are the drugs of choice if necessary when pregnant....according to what my OB and psych told me. I successfully got thru an entire pregnancy and had a healthy son while on Lexapro. Basically...we weighed the risks and benefits and talked it through. I was having such a high level of anxiety and depression, and being that pregnancy often makes those issues worse...we decided to keep me on the Lexapro.
Definitely discuss this with your OB...sooner, rather than later...that way, any needed changes can be made now, and you can adjust to a new med if you are actively trying to get pregnant.
Best of luck to you.
Hi Joyce. I take Paroxetine also and it's NOT OK to take while pregnant. I was going to try to get pregnant last year so I had this whole discussion with my doctor and she had switched me to Lexapro which I believe is better if you have to take something while you are pregnant but that didn't work for my anxiety and made me sick so I couldn't continue. Anyway, I believe Prozac may be ok as well but again, you have to discuss it with your doctor and figure out what is safe and right for you. Good luck and God Bless.
Have you talked with your doctor about this? They are usually really knowledgable about what you can and cannot take during pregnancy.
