Anxiety can cause a myriad of symptoms in my opinion, to include shortness of breath. You said that you have been experiencing this for about six months. Did your doctor reccommend some sort of counseling with a therapist? Knowledge of this problem can help you tremendously to confront this and deal with it in my experience with this. When you are worried about something such as shortness of breath, we can definitely cause it to be worse, especially if it is what we are focused on; it can really be a vicious cycle of worry, panic, worry sometimes. For me, breaking this cycle was key and I did that mostly through talk therapy. Remember, not to get too down on yourself you have a bad day or two. You are also not alone in this...keep working at it and keep us posted!
Shortness of breath is a major symptom of anxiety.
Coupled with anxiety you recognize....is probably a physical manifestation.
Wish I could recommend an antidepressant. Since radiation and chemo for anal cancer, I have 0 toleration for Effexor, Zoloft, Prozac, Lexapro, etc. Several were ok when tried years ago...now extreme side effects, which make them unsuitable.
Everyone is different, so hope you will give meds a try.
I have never taken Ativan...but many here do. I was switched from Xanax to Klonopin many yrs ago...and it is still what I take...not ideal...but a base.
Hope it helps to know what you are experiencing is normal for people with anxiety.
Know it doesn't make you feel better physically, but we do understand...
Best, Ann
are you taking any anxiety medications? I cant tell you how many times this has happen to me. i would feel like i couldnt get enough air in and i would have anxiety out the bazooka.
my shortness of breathe got so bad i didnt get out of bed much, until i found this wonderful doctor that gave me zoloft, it got me up and going. i have been on it for about 17 years. It changed my life. only now, i am taking up to 200 mgs of zoloft, along with xanax. i dont really like xanax, id perfer ativan, it works way better for me, and for some reason doctors wont give me ativan, even when i tell them it works for me. strange, isnt it. it really is. i only took it when i needed it. but, anyway, what your going thru is normal with anxiety. (chronic anxiety) its hard to deal with sometimes, just hang in there..
