Cochicine should only be taken during severe flare-ups. To prevent uric acid build-up, there is a diet on the gout website (no alcohol, red meats, organ meat, turkey, beans, asparagus, nightshade plants (tomatoes, bell peppers, eggplant,) oats, fruit) as well as lifestyle recommendations (no dramatic weight loss.) You can also take allopurinol daily to regulate uric acid levels. Except for people with dramatcially 'rich' diets, most is caused by the lack of an enzyme the body is supposed to make to deal with purines.
Flare-ups can last a week or longer or just a matter of hours. With or without medication, they do pass. With medication, you get longer gaps between flare ups and prevent tissue damage such as deforming nodes on the joints.
Hi
I know about colchisine - I took it to help prevent gouty arthritis and it made me so sick to my stomach that I wanted to DIE!!
Why do you take it? To lower your uric acid? I know a simple natural juice which works for that if that's why you take it
In the top menu you will see an item for drugs. MedHelp has some very detailed information about drugs. Here is the link for colchicine
