Sleep positioner: helpful or hazardous?

Can someone give me advice about sleep positioners?  I am trying to put together my registry and not sure if sleep positioner is a good idea.  I want my baby to be safe and already nervous about her rolling around and not being able to breathe.  On the other hand, some info states that these positioners are not safe.  Were they helpful with your baby?

Any advice for a newby is appreciated.

I don't have any children but I do babysit. I am not sure about sleep positioners but I like the idea of baby swaddlers.

There are so many different kinds...ranging from $10-$60. I believe the 5 mo old that I babysit is using a $10 and it works great.

I know when I have children, i will use a swaddler.

Thanks!

I also swaddled but never used the two sleep positioners I received.  My dd could not roll over until she was like 6 months old so they didn't do anything anyways!!

Oh yes, and I think the actual recommendation for preventing SIDS is nothing in the crib (not even a sleep positioner).  I personally think they could be hazardous if for instance your baby did roll over and got stuck like that.

Very unsafe.  Nothing should be in the crib.  I tried the sleep positioner before i knew it was unsafe and my baby worked her way down and her nose was up against the wedge part.

Thanks!  I'll stay away from sleep positioners.
