Do I have Bipolar

Hello there

I wonder if anyone can shed some light please on my situation that is totally driving me a little to the point where I am getting lost in my own world.

This started about 7 years ago, about a year after I had my son.

To put it in a nutshell I have different moods during the day, raging to sweetness, then jealousy to crying and then I imagine things happening to me and I get very upset and my sleep is then disrupted by these sad thoughts.

It feels like I am losing the plot and not comfortable speaking to my doctor (although she is such a lovely doctor) I feel that I am mad and my mum was diagnosed with schizophrenia about 15 years ago and she is not 'normal' without the pills.

I do not know what I can do about the way I feel during the day...sometimes I feel normal other days I can be 10 different people in one body.

Thanks

If a person has bipolar with psychotic features they experience psychosis during moodswings. If they have schizoaffective disorder as I have been identified as having made a full recovery from (read through my posts) they have psychosis all the time. Only a psychiatrist could provide a diagnosis but psychosis like moodswings can vary from day to day and schizophrenia and bipolar as current research shows are genetically linked. For example, my mother is about to start treatment for cyclothymia (mild bipolar). Its hard to accept having a psychiatric disability at first but treatment can and will help and it is worth speaking to a psychiatrist.

Hi Kay,

Make sure they run the tests to check for hypothyroidism. I have that, and it makes you feel like you are going crazy until you can get the medicine going. Read up on it, and also check out armour thyroid in case you do have that.

The truth is until you can speak to your doctor there isn't much that can be done. The sooner you find the strength to do so the better it will be for you and your family. I really hope you find some answers, and I will tell you that asking for help if you need it is worth it.

If you're not comfortable with your doctor, maybe you should find a different one. I can't tell you if you have bipolar or not, but I can tell you that I have very similar symptoms to yours. Especially feeling like im many different people in one body. It can be terrible. I can go from happy, to angry to sad to lonely then back to angry and then sometimes no emotion at all. And then the pattern will repeat itself...ALL DAY LONG. Not every day, but most days, really.

I just started therapy about a year ago and it has helped me out quite a bit, but in combination with the right medication it has worked even better. The mood swings are less severe. But since I just started medication I'm not sure if I'm on the right kind/dose yet. It takes time to figure all of this out. So just be patient, try to find a dr that you are comfortable with and talk to all of us:) You'll get there!!
