Geodon

Hi, Im new here..My husband was just diagnosed with bipolar..he is 36yrs old, no family history and he has never had any problems before..He has had 2 manic episodes in the past 4 yrs...he was briefly put on meds for a few months the 1st time and this last time he was put on Geodon. Im confused, the psychiatrist that put him on the meds org said that he would probably need to take them for a year or 2...He went back to work and had to have a physical and that doctor said that people usually dont stay on geodon to long...but his after discharge psychiatrist made it sound like he was going to be on geodon forever..he has never had depression either..he has only had 2 of these manic episodes.both came on after extreme stressful situations..do people with bipolar always have both or can they only have one.? Do you think he was diagnosed correctly? It all started because his grandpa died then I found out we couldnt do our planned invitro because I had a cyst..work was stressing him out this all happend in the same week..so he started not sleeping , he would maybe sleep 2hrs a night..he did that for like 4 to 5 days..and then he started to get parinoid and a little dilusional..but I know not sleeping can cause that...I made him go to the hospital and get some help and figure out what was going on...Now Im not sure he was diagnosed correctly and is on meds that he shouldnt be..anyone got any advise , I appreciate it!
Thanks

Sorry I was using my girlfriends computer..she was already signed in....sorry girl...but anyway I will just copy and paste my previous thoughts...
It didnt last long..Like he would be parinoid one day and then perfectly fine for 2 days and then again paranoid the 3rd day...and then I made him check into a hospital where he stayed for a week and the 1st night he was there he had an outburst (by this time he maybe slept 7hrs total in 7 days)..he/they said that he heard me crying and was trying to get to me and they wouldnt let him (it was another patient that was crying right after I had left he said it sounded just like me) it took 4 mantaince workers and 2 security guards to get him strapped down so they could give him a sedative and then the doc put him on geodon and said that he is bipolar...the 1st doc he saw said it was anxiety..Im just worried and I dont want him to be taking pills for something he doesnt have and I just feel that some of these docs are to quick to diagnose bipolar...I was thinking of taking him to another doc...um just so confused..Also people with bipolar is it possible to only have the manic episodes and not depression or do they get both..cause my hubby never had depression and like i said he has never had probs before and no family history...He had a bad car accident about 7 yrs ago and he hit his head really good that they wouldnt operate on his knee for a week because he had a little bleeding in his brain and they wanted to wait for that to stop..they did do a catscan last month and said that they could see his old injury but that nothing else came up...Im just not sure what to do..I dont want him taking drugs that he shouldnt be and something happens to him because of it and I dont want him not taking drugs if this is truly what is wrong so he can get better....Ugh!!

Hi,

Find a good psychiatrist, the best one possible and get second opinion. I juzt wasted 3 years of my lifee with a p doc who did not do a good job. You husband situation is not clear so go and check with someone else. I was diagnosed with bipolar II 3 years ago but the meds don't work for me and my new doc is not yet sure if my problem is bipolar.

Good Luck

He was quiet and when I asked him what was wrong he said he was just thinking to much..seemed like he couldnt stop all the thinking he was doing..then he became a little parinoid and dilusional.....
