How do you test for bipolar? What meds to take

I have already relaxed a bit knowing that there are people like you guys who have put yourselves out there to help each other. I have fianlly come to the reliasation that I am suffering from bipolar. The huge depression I am slowly nearing the end from is being reduced from antidepressants. I have the anxiety and jealousy wiht racing thoughts going through my head at the moment. I finished a 14 relationship 7 months ago and we have become really good friends again as I hated him. After being on a high for 5 months running a muck getting drunk and going out I have now been through a low. Due to my over excitment and becoming abusive through that period I lost a relly good couple of friends and only my ex is around now. So the jealousy of who have you been with? who are you seeing? Who is that in your mobile is it your new woman? Then accusing him off lying ect. The anxiety and rage is coming back and I know it is thoughts but can't stop em.

You will be drugged quickly. This can obscure the real condition. Bipolar disorder is the disease du jour. Insist on knowing the reasons for this diagnosis. The diagnosis is a guess.. There is no medical test to determine a bipolar condition.

If you need help and you seem to, I would find an experienced psychologist. These people  usually look at more of the whole person, and they will spend time assessing the problem and not quickly masking it with drugs.

Drugs come with a price.  Know the price first. Have your health habits been considered. Has a neurological assessment been attempted? I ask this because misdiagnosed people have been institutionalized when they had real illnesses that were never considered. I remember the story of one woman who was committed while she had a sizable tumor pressing on her brain.

The internet makes it possible to share these stories. Sometimes valuable insight results.

I am not qualified to suggest what might be wrong, but even I can see that what you describe is not a bipolar condition. I would look for more opinions before agreeing to a treatment. Do you remember the statement: "A mind is a terrible thing to waste"? How about:"Question authority"?

I am only seventeen, but I do understand what kind of jealousy you are talking about. I have been dating this guy for almost a year, and just lately I have been having these crazy jealousy RAGES. I start freaking out about his past and what he has done and try and make him feel badly about who he's had sex with. I freak out thinking he is talking to all these other women and just lies to me about it even though I know him better then that. Just put yourself out there and you will get great responses. It feels good to be involved in a community of people like you. I hope your new medication and counseling will benefit you. Just DON'T miss a dosage. I am bad about that. Good luck and let me know how things go please.

Sincerely,
Danielle

if you are bipolar you should first be put on a mood stabilizer before antidepressants. antidepressants can cause bipolar patients to go into a manic state very quickly especially without a mood stabilizer. jim phelps has a great book on bipolar mood spectrums called why am i still depressed and a great website called bipolarworld. check it out.

Thank you for your comments and I am in the middle of seeing a doctor and councilor. I have been prescribed antidepressants but I also think another step is to be taken.

first you need to see a psychiatrist to get evaluated. the psy doc will test you and give you a definitive dx. then  you must have therapy. It  takes a combo of mood stabilizer, antidepressenat, and therapy to beat bi polar if indeed you do turn out  to be. dx yourself is risky but go to the psy doc adn be ruthlessly honest with them and yourself so you can get the help you need and n ot have to suffer with this.
