I've been trying to read some books to give me a clue.  Thought I would just share and would love to hear of any others folks have read:

Laughing in the dark: a comedian's journey through depression - Chondra Pierce
BiPolar for Dummies (I know, bad title..but an OK book)
The Bipolar Disorder Answer Book: Professional Answers to More than 275 top questions - Charles Atkins, M.D.

Bipolar Disorder for Dummies by Candida Fink, MD

I've read bits and pieces of all of these and found them all to be quite good. Break the Bipolar Cycle hit the nail on the head such that as I was reading I kept thinking, wow, she knows me.
