Son-Lifetime of hardship

My oldest son & I are unbeliveably close. He has a sense of will that is very awesome. I have just learned the extent yesterday. He & his g'friend just bought their 1st home. I have wondered why now & he just told me. His G'friends Brother just moved in with them. The Brother is just 16. I knew she was shouldering issues, but not to this extent. I wondered "Why". He is Bi-polar & from what I've heard facing a hard road to hoe. She & my Son are just awesome in every respect. Of course I want to help, but reaize theirs is just very touchy subject. I have a 1st hand deal! I need advice to help these kids. But not at the error of my illness. The sad part is 'they' face a lifetime of issues. He has moved in with them, trying to give him the stability he needs. He also needs a Mom figure too. I want/need to 'help' too. But how do I proceed?  My Daughter is traveling over the holidays, & as it turns out I will be going there too! I guess my questions are 'how can I help? Any suggestions are needed...thx, Tres

i agree, you sound like you have a big heart yourself so just play it by ear. you'll know when help is needed. otherwise just look forward to enjoying the holidays.

I think you'll just have to play it by ear. It's good to have some concept of what this teenager's issues are but, as I'm sure you already know, he is a person - not an illness. I hope he's seeing a doctor and is on medication. If he's not you'll be aware that he may get irrationally upset over small things, stay in his room, stay up all night...who knows? Don't worry about it. Just maintain your own equillibrium and positive, helpful attitude and things should go smoothly.
