I believe it might be activating but then again a medication change might easily cause insomnia. Tradazone and Lunesta both as sleep aides could easily be sedating though. You might want to ask your psychiatrist about Rozerem an FDA approved medication that works like melatonin to adjust the sleep cycle and is safe and non addictive. The two newly approved antipsychotics Saphris and Fanapt work like Abilify in that they are serotonin dopamine antagonists (a slightly different class of antipsychotics than the ones before) so they might all have activating properties but for full information go to the medication website and of course speak to your psychiatrist.

I'm not on Saphris, but I've heard really positive things about it - to the point where I printed out the medication information. I'm looking at it right now.

Looks like it's approved for schizophrenia and acute treatment of manic or mixed episodes in bipolar disorder.

Seroquel has a reputation for having an antidepressant effect. So does Abilify. But Saphris is only approved for mania, not depression. However, it's possible that research will turn up benefits.

Looks like you shouldn't mix it with Prozac or Paxil.

Saphris had less than 1% risk of high blood sugar in clinical trials, so that should be good news. It tends to lower blood pressure, not raise it. Therefore, be careful when standing up suddenly, etc.

Any atypical antipsychotic is going to have risks, but if I need to go off one of my meds, I'll definitely ask my doctor about it, it's supposed to be very effective. Good luck!
