My question is on tapering risperidone how long does one need to taper risperidone from a dose of 1mg to 0.5mg in days or weeks?.

stopping Risperidone (Risperdal) too quickly may be the reappearance of symptoms.
i remember to have read somewhere that you need 3 weeks to taper off from risperidone but i don't recall the dose from which you start going down. so i presume 1 week is ok from 1mg till 0.5mg or better give it 2 weeks maximum.

I'm sorry, you need to ask a pdoc better

I remember i stopped it in 2006 cold turkey and i had psychosis became manic and dx BP so watch out

Thanks I will give it one week as I took 12 days to come down from 1.5mg to 1mg and did not have any symptoms.Anyways thanks a ton.

I have taken one month to come down from 3mg to one mg and will take one week to reduce it from 0.5mg as well

Hi adel did you encounter insomnia and sleep problems when you stopped risperidone as I am encountering these sleep problems now and the PDoc is fine with my speed of tapering the medication.

of course you do for a while but you get used to that and retrieve back your sleep habits.

the problem is that BP pts develop anxiety often, so unless you have anxiety, then you will be ok and will sleep well after the risperidone gets out of your body completely which is abt 3 weeks at most, since the half life is very short, matter of hours

thanks adel By another week I would have stopped risperidone as now I am on 0.5mg at night.Hopefully my sleep problems will settle after that.My anxiety levels are OK till now and manageable and hopefully will remain that way.Anyways thanks for ur support.Let's keep in touch.I am from India.
