Your doctor is right. Wellbutrin at 450 mg already has 4 times the risk for seizures as other antidepressants, and the risk goes up by another 10 times if you increase to 600 mg (see http://www.rxlist.com/wellbutrin-drug/warnings-precautions.htm).
One option might be to try topamax. It's used off label as a mood stabilizer, it's an anticonvulsant (lowers seizure risk), and tends to cause weight loss. It doesn't work mood wise for everyone though, and not everyone loses weight.
Hi there. Dose is lower, but yes I am on Wellbutrin. My Pdoc & I have changed meds lots, over the years, but somehow go back to one component of my drug cocktail being the Wellbutrin.
Mine is offset with Cymbalta & this drug is very expensive, even with good insurance.
Then I've emergency meds. Panic attack, loss of focus meds. I'd say. I take maybe 1 pill every 2 months. As I wean off my pain meds, I may utilize these meds in conjunction with withdrawals.
My life, hasn't been missed. On the contrary. I've suffered more deeply, which has allowed me to love& feel love on an unimaginable level. This is the beauty of BiPolar. Pamela
