wellbutrin anyone 500 and over

I have bipolar with major depression for more than 20yrs. I have missed and ruined the best years of my life and my kids life the things I wanted I never did them well maybe in my next lifetime. So u no I am over 50 and hope not to live that long, but I just in not even a year put on over 40 pounds which I was that weight when I was 13yrs and talk about bullying in 1960 was depressing. I know from experience and hundreds of different med that the only one really outthere for me is the wellbutrin, but my doc refuses to go over saying that I will not be able to drive no more or that I will get seisures. I would really like to know has anyone taken over the max with no side affect. I loved wellbutrin but my tolerance was stronger and at the 450mg it did not help me no more in order for me to feel good I must look good. thanks

Your doctor is right.  Wellbutrin at 450 mg already has 4 times the risk for seizures as other antidepressants, and the risk goes up by another 10 times if you increase to 600 mg (see http://www.rxlist.com/wellbutrin-drug/warnings-precautions.htm).  

One option might be to try topamax.  It's used off label as a mood stabilizer, it's an anticonvulsant (lowers seizure risk), and tends to cause weight loss.  It doesn't work mood wise for everyone though, and not everyone loses weight.

Hi there. Dose is lower, but yes I am on Wellbutrin. My Pdoc & I have changed meds lots, over the years,but somehow go back to one component of my drug cocktail being the Wellbutrin.
Mine is offset with Cymbalta & this drug is very expensive,even with good insurance.
Then I've emergency meds. Panic attack,loss of focus meds. I'd say. I take maybe 1 pill every 2 months. As I wean off my pain meds, I may utilize these meds in conjunction with withdrawals.
My life, hasn't been missed. On the contrary. I've suffered more deeply,which has allowed me to love& feel love on an unimaginable level. This is the beauty of BiPolar.         Pamela
