Snacking at the boob

Snacking at the boob

Anyone know how to get your baby to eat more in one sitting?  My little guy is eating about every hour and a half, but doesn't eat much at one time.  I didn't mind at first, b/c he was refluxing so badly, I thought smaller meals would help.  That seems to have resolved, but he is still eating that way.  At night he sleeps for 4 or 5 hours the first time, then starts his 90 min schedule.  By the time he eats, burps and gets a diaper change, its almost time to eat again.  I really don't think I can stand to force him to wait, he sounds pretty mad when he is hungry.  And when he starts eating, it seems like he is really hungry but then he just kind of fizzles out.  I thought maybe I am already running out of milk, but he doesn't even want to try the other side.

How old is he?  Is he falling asleep at the breast, or just quitting?  If he's falling asleep, try to wake him, burp him, undress him, sit him upright.  If he just quits, maybe burp him, wait a few minutes, then try to start him on the other side.

how old is he?  when they are a bit older they can drain a boob in minutes!  maybe offer right before you know he is going to be starving so he might eat slower?  my dd went through spurts where she would "snack" more often and i think it was due to teething or growth spurts.

is he old enough that he is eating baby food too?  if he is over 6 months and eating food remember to bf before you feed him table foods.

i checked out your profile and it seems he is just weeks old?  about this age they do eat in a frenzy, every hour and a half and seems you never get a break.  it could be a growth spurt, hang in there, hopefully it will even out soon.  im sure it must be very hard with a toddler, i hope you are getting some sleep  ;)

i'm not sure it's snacking... mine does this too, but i think she just drains the boob quickly and is an efficient nurser. the reason i think this is because my first was bottle fed breast milk so i knew she was getting full feeds. despite this, she ate just as frequently as this baby. and now that she's in another growth spurt, it's worse. i'm hoping she outgrows it soon.

Sorry, he is about 7 weeks old. Yes, perhaps it is a growth spurt.  Guess I should be thankful for the 4 - 5 hours I get every night.  Maybe I'll start going to bed at 8 when he does :)

You could pump after he feeds and then feed him the rest in a bottle. It mat come quicker and he may eat more.
