spicy food

I just has some pasta and it was pretty spicy so I didn't finish it but had at least half a cup. Will it affect my breast milk. Should I give my little Guy a bottle?  He's prone to tummy trouble and I don't want to upset his belly by what I eat. What should I do. Please help. Thanks

drink a couple galsses of water, you will know if it upset him in 6 hours is when it gets to the milk, there is NO reason to give the baby a bottle either as it can stay in your milk for a day or so and th ebaby can have effects for a few days as well. You can't give them a bottle that long. If he has that much trouble I suggest NOT eating spicy foods in the future. It will get better the older he gets as his digestive tract developes but drinking water does help as long as you don't go over board. I would watch this thanksgiving with dairy and rich foods as well.

Your milk will not taste spicy to your little one.  Babies that have issues with food are typically specific things like dairy, wheat, soy, etc.  Was there something in the pasta that has bothered your little guy in the past?

My little one had terrible reflux. Spicy didn't bother her though- it was actually onions cooked into foods. I would take a chance, just to try to figure out what it is that aggravates his tummy. If he is prone to tummy trouble, it's quite possible that giving formula will upset his tummy.

Good! Start watching for reactions and noting what you ate the meal before that feeding. You can probably start to pinpoint certain foods that cause problems. Common problem foods are onions, garlic, caffeine, dairy, broccoli, acidic foods like tomato, etc... Some can aggravate reflux, others can cause gas. Every baby is different. With my first, I could eat anything. My second was the one with severe reflux, but on that list the only thing that really bothered her was onion.
