My poor baby will be fine after all

Oh My God. I guess miracles do happen. Thank you for all your positive thoughts. I got a call from the doctor. Here are the results, comments etc:

Diagnosis: Fatty Liver Disease (Hepatic Lipidosis) and mild IBD. It was caused by our moving into a new house.
No cancer, no Pancreatitis. I am so happy right now that at least it isn't anything other than FLD. I asked him why he had found IBD still, and what he was feeding my cat. He said he was feeding him Hills a/d. That would explain the mild IBD. He said at least it wasn't chronic and that a little inflammation will not kill him. He just needs nutrition, than we can deal with his IBD (and I know how to deal with that :)...)
He found no bacteria or parasites. I guess the raw food was really, really working and never damaged my baby. It was the move.
So now I will bring him home tomorrow. I'll read ZQ's websites to learn how to care for my cat with the feeding tube. The doctor did say he wanted to see Abster regularly until he is completely cured. He said Abby's billirubin has dropped from 26 to 10. Talking about miracles and will to live!!!!!

Thank you guys, for all your support. You are all great. I want to buy a beer and celebrate! Gosh I was close to losing him. I was so scared. THIS will never happen to me again. If my cat has not eaten in 12 hours I WILL force feed him at whatever cost.

He is now on the mend. It is a long road ahead.....but my kitty is a fighter and wants to live so that's all I need :)

Big hugs to ya'll!!

Sarah, how's Snickers?
April, How's Misha?

PrettyKitty,
I'm so glad to hear Abby is doing so well being all he's been thru.  Hey, jumping up onto the bed is a good sign, too, even with the feeding tube.  I hope Abby has a restful night.  He is a beautiful kitty.  Take care.

Pretty Kitty, I have not been on the cat forum in a while. My computer has been down. I am so very happy that your kitty is now doing much better. I so understand how you feel. But, thank God your baby is improving. You always were so wonderful to me over Hissie. God Bless You.

Well, it sounds like things are starting to look up for Abster.  I know this is a slow process, but he is coming along.  It is very very good news that he is hydrated.  Thank God!

It's also great to hear that he's using the box.  That does mean that you are doing a good job feeding him.  See, all of us knew you could do it!

I hope that he's starting to perk up a little bit more!

You must have a huge mess in your house with the dog. Cats sometimes will not make it easy on us when we take in other animals. They rule the house. They rule your life :)

I'm happy, happy, happy Sam is doing well. This is such good news. Keep up the good work Opus :)

Abby has been through so, so much I'm surprised he hasn't given up. I'm happy he hasn't any ways. He is suffering from nausea today but other than that he is doing fine. I called the vet and they said to give it time. Abby is not all the way there, and will not be until God knows when. This is going very slow....but it's going.  He is still weak and sleeps for the most part. But, he has been using the box, which tells me he is getting nutrients and hydration...a good indication that the food is actually going in his stomach...one of my worries. He uses the box a lot so. I pulled the scruff of the neck and it went down fast so he is hydrated. When I took him to the vet, she told me his dehydration levels were at 10%.....on a scale from 1 to 10!!! Then it went down to 3%. Now he is fully hydrated. We just need to get him to feel better.

I know what you mean abt two separate diets...and of course Sami wants to eat the one he can't have and Nemo is a nibbler..so he is very upset when his dish isn't in its spot always...to funny how they rule 'us' isn't it..
Oh and now I have the 'bulldog' here so we have 3 feed spots and gates up all over..so the challenge builds, my kitties are NOT impressed, can't say I blame them its their house too.
No more scabs!!!  had those two little ones last month, but he didn't scratch at..so they just dried up and fell off, Oh I have my paws crossed..thx for asking

I remarked on Abby's photos...the poor little guy sure has been thru the mill hasn't he, but PK he looks bright, he's got that flicker in his eye...he is a strong boy and he will pull thru this, sure didn't think I'd be saying that to you a while back!! he has a long long way to go but he is a fighter we know that.
he is one beautiful kitty....easy to love too.

Opus and FBM,

You two are so darling. Thanks for your support. You are great. FBM, you are right. There are lots of sick kitties out there who need us very much. You know, I see such a contrast in my own home. Maybe Opus feels the same way as she has more than one cat. My Dillan is so, so ridiculously healthy! However, Abby is a sick baby. He is sensitive to everything and anything. It's a challenge, because now my two cats are on different diets. Talk about challenging situations.

Opus, is Sami breaking out again?

Oh....I'm sorry ...I think I'm the sleepy one here...or dozy I should say. You of course are Akira's mommy...BTW I did pick up some benadryl tablets today...and I will try if Sami breaks out again..however I'm always one to do things very conservatively therefore would start small with abt 12mg and see how he tolerates, I'm always the same with my own meds too, I feel if there are gonna be some side effects I don't want the whole whammy at once..
take care hope you yourself get feeling better also..

Isn't it wonderful that dominosara gave Snickers a good home?  I would love to know all the answers to the questions you asked, too.

My little furball is bouncing off the walls right now, so I would say that means she is doing very well, even with her allergies.  I think she is happy that I finally got out of bed.  She noticed I've been sleeping a lot lately myself, because of how sedating the pain medication is.

That's wonderful news about Abby!  What a relief!  I had been worried because of what my experience was with my darling tiny Siamese girl a few years ago.  I am so happy for you that I can only cry tears of joy and relief.  I know you're thrilled beyond words yourself.

My dads greatest concern was making sure his pets had a home.  My aunt took his dog and i took Snickers.

I forget that we dont all live in the same time zone!!!!!

Sarah....not yet. It's 10:58 am. Remember my time? Eastern? :)
I have to be there at 3:00pm. I'll take pictures and show them to ya'll. Hopefully, they will want to give me the biopsy too so you see the color of his liver!!

No vomit in 2 days? Go Snickers!! Sarah....Snicker's story is heartbreaking. He must have suffered a lot with the absence of your dad. Poor baby got lucky he wasn't abandoned. You are the mom now :)

I guess the reason i didnt worry about Snickers having trouble was becuz when my dad passed away he came to live with me.  He was taken from the only place he knew and he was so close to my dad.  He knew me and the beagle as i took care of my dad while he was sick.  When he got to my house he would cry alot on the basement steps and i would sit and cry with him but he never quit eating or threw up so i just figured he would be the one to handle the new puppy.  How wrong i was.  No vomit this morning!!!  That is 2 days in a row now!!!

Abby should be either home now or on his way home!!!!

NOT to say the other too don't NO...because they will continue to need the prayers and miracles to keep imrpoving and eating to get back their strength.....
PK and Sara keep giving us updates...it will be a long road and require much dedication that I know you both have..
Interesting abt the beagle Sara....
Today I get a BULLDOG...my grandaughters to baby sit for 3 weeks.....and My cats sure are not impressed when she's around.....they stick to the back bedroom where the dog is blocked off from ....thank God they don't stop eating on me...cats can punish us in soooo many ways when not happy.

I had no clue either that our babies could get this sick from change in their lives.  Snickers lost over 4 lbs which isnt bad compared to our Abby and Snickers weighs 17 lbs yet!!!  He is a big boy.  I was so worried about the beagle and never thought for a moment that he wouldnt handle this.  Tonight he is happy as a clam, giving himself a bath, something he wasnt really doing and sitting in his chair looking around with those big bright eyes.  Life is complete tonight.  All our babies are home.......Merry Christmas Jade               sara

I'm so happy to read this good news about Snickers.  What a relief!  And no vomiting today is a great sign!

I am learning from y'all that cats Really Do Not Like Change and can get very sick...sick enough to die, because of it. I had no idea!  I am thanking my lucky stars Jade is so adaptable and easy going.  She did react to all her medical problems and the long stay in the hospital in the middle of the year by having a herpes breakout, but never did she stop eating or vomit more than usual.

Between Abby and Snickers, this has truly been a learning experience for any future cats we may have.  I just read up on Mrs_Savas' post on syringe feeding and feel so much better just knowing it's there should we ever need it.  I dearly love this forum!

Merry Christmas, Sara!

Sarah,

Gosh, this is great news. I am so happy for you and Snickers. Thank God everything is going well for him. And he hasn't thrown up today that's just great! I'm glad it's nothing serious. See? Both our cats HATE change so much they get sick and make us worried.  This is good. This is really really good.

ZQ,

I felt your happiness :) I will post pictures of my Abby tomorrow no later than 8:00pm. He looks pitiful, but I'm sure we'll get him back on track.  Did you see that? The vet told me he looked ready to pass away and now he is telling me that my cat has a strong will to live? Amazing! I'm so happy right now...

Well i got good news on my boy today too.  All his tests came back fine and he is a healthy 8 yr old kitty!!!  It seems Snickers is not adapting to the new puppy that a certain person who lives in the same house as me brought into the family.  The vet said he is very stressed and that is what is causing him to throw up.  I had the stress concerns about the beagle not adapting and she is but not my boy.  He and i are going to have more cat time together and has some special food that is gentle on his tummy.  So far today he hasnt thrown up.  I should mention the puppy has become a real nice fit into our family(i wanted a dog from the humane society that was potty trained and had adult teeth) and i fell in love with her the minute i laid my eyes on her but right now i need to spend that little extra time with Snickers and let him know that he is loved just as much as the other ones here.  We got 2 kitties on the mend now and i am just thrilled to hear that Abby is going to be fine!!!  Now we wait for Misha and you know what they say about things going in 3's so here is to Misha to have good news too.  Hugs to all of you and an extra hug for all our babies.......sara

OMG!!!!!!!!!  I am SOOOOO freaking happy to hear this.  I swear to God, I had a feeling it was the move.  He'll be just fine once he gets used to your new house.  All of us will be waiting for pics, BTW!!  LOL  I think April was already nagging ya about some!  = )

What awesome news-no cancer or pancreatitis.  And, his liver values dropped a whole bunch.  I'd say that Abster has got a huge will to live and is a big time fighter.  I bet he won't even need the feeding tube for very long w/ his values dropping so much.  He's probably feeling so much better now.  Man, I am soooooo happy about him.  I'm all grinning and tearing up over here!  = )

Well, I hope the links will help a little bit.  I sure wish I could've found some better ones.  Maybe some of the other people on here can help us find some info.  And, who knows maybe all of us will need it someday.

Thank God for miracles.....an early Xmas present!  = D
