Old Rusty...

Found the landlady's oldest kitty Rusty (18 - 19 years old) laying at the edge of the lawn about 10 feet from the deck last night. He tried purring as I stroked his head, we'd come to be friends a bit during our time here.

Looks like he was trying to make it to the house but just could not.

I brought him a bit of food in a bowl, but he wouldn't eat. I kept shooing flies away from him.

Picked him up, no resistance and placed him in a cat carrier to keep the rain off, while we found the landlady. We talked about him a bit, was a stray that came to stay when they lived in upstate NY, made the move with them about 12 years ago.

She's taking him to the vet for the Final Visit this morning. Glad I could give the old fellow a little solace at the end of his long journey.

All of her kitties live mostly outdoors, so Rusty had an incredibly good run at life.  He always seemed very sweet natured.

Hilda returned the cat carrier to Anita this evening with her thanks that we cared enough to help Rusty.

He passed peacefully last night, asleep in the carrier.

He is now in a little grave in the woods behind the house, forever free of pain and old bones.

"shooing flies away"...*sniff*  I am imagining how grateful Rusty must of been you found him, so he didn't have to die all alone on the lawn.  Bless you, Pip.
