I'd definitely bring him to the vet right away. The vet needs to check for worms , feline leukemia and feline aids . And, I also believe that your kitten is too mellow and may be sick. Kittens should be playing.
Please keep us posted.
Hi Blue,
I think it is hard to say with a stray. They should always have a thorough Vet examine as a baseline for future health.
AKC could very well be right. Poor thing is finally catching up on some ZZZZZZ's. When you are not feral and left to the outside, sleep is not something you are inclined to do...too much going on and you are hyper-vigilant. Sounds like I have been a stray too, Huh?
Since you just got him and you do not have any other animals, I would give it a couple of days to see if he livens up. Cats usually love to play when they are feeling fine. Although some cats are just not crazy about play. You will find your cats personal preference with some time getting to know him.
If he is still a couch potato after a week then , yes, there may be some illness he is hiding--please have your vet check the teeth and gums. This area is famous for causing sever lethargy due to the amount of PAIN the cat is in if he has a gum disease-Stomatitis
.........So congratulations on being a very special person for rescuing one of the homeless. May you have many wonderful years with a creature who will repay your kindness everyday with love and devotion.
Please get back to us and let us know how all things work out. I sincerely hope he is just "pooped" from the journey and not sick.

My vet said the nose thing is a myth.
And I know that my cat's ears are warmer than the rest of his body. He has only had fever once and his whole body was real warm and the top of his head burning up.
As far as the sleeping...I don't know. Maybe he just feels secure and safe for the first time in...who knows how long?
