cats tail

some how my indoor/outdoor cat got his tail partially scalped, will this ever heal up or will it need amputation?

I think it depends on the severity of the injury.  Have you taken the kitty to the vet?  My parents had a tabby that had a really bad tail injury.  It ended up self-amputating and couldn't be saved.  Thankfully, though, the cat was fine.  Don't take any chances with kitty's health, though.  Be sure to take the cat to the vet.
