I believe he is a chiari specialist. I will double check though. Thanks
Thanks for letting me know that the surgery was changed...do also post to the surgery date thread in case I lose my list here...lol.....
Can't say that name is familiar....sorry,...is he a chiari specialist?
Oh, I canceled my surgery for 6-13 and am not going to follow-up with Dr. Heffez any longer. I like this other NS better. Have you heard of Dr. Christopher Wolfla in Milwaukee, WI?
Yes, he does specialize in Chiari but I will wait to see what the Cine MRI is showing. If there is only 1 blocked, than I will question this further with him.
Thanks
Not sure about saying the direction of flow is normal...but it did say it was normal in both the anterior(front) and posterior (back)
SO u may need to monitor ur Chiari to see if nething else changes.....
@ cminor5- u only need to be blocked in one area, posterior......many that have surgery tend to have the obstruction here and only here,.JMHO....
Was this NS a chiari specialist?
I was also curious if the flow is blocked in only 1 area of the brain (front or back), does this mean you do not need surgery? My new NS stated today that if it was blocked in only 1 part of the brain I should not need surgery but yes if blocked in both area's. Can someone clarify? Thanks
My radiologist report states: The direction of CSF flow anterior and posterior to the brainstem and foramen magnum is normal."
The report only states the direction as normal. Should I pursue this further? Thanks
It would be wise to have a CINE to see if there is an obstruction as that is a reason to consider surgery...not the symptoms...even tho we feel that way....surgery is not a cure and it is possible to have lasting effects from Chiari, so make sure u know how it is affecting u and if u have ne related conditions B4 u have surgery.
Selma, do the extreme head pains a person deals with come from having blocked fluids? I am seeing my NS on Wednesday, and I am hoping she will want to do a CINE MRI. My biggest problem is the extreme head pains, and wake up almost everyday hardly being able to function. This usually passes after an hour or two but it makes it very miserable. I'm not sure this is enough to require surgery, but my mornings and evening make life almost unbearable some days.
Hi...we r not medical professionals here and a CINE MRI needs to be moving in order to tell if there is a blockage that is why it is done, it is diff from a reg MRI that is a still picture...
And I am not qualified to read them even if it was moving....but with a CINE they also look for how the CSF pulsates as well as if the flow is diminished...so there is more involved then just being blocked.
I am sure u will get info from ur Dr.
